Meeting #35 continued
3. Mr. Patterson reported for the COMMITTEE ON THE RECLASSIFICATION OF
COLDWATER CREEK for the meeting held in Raleigh October 19 1965.
This meeting concerned the problem of down grading the classifi-
cation of Coldwater Creek. The hearing was held by Mr. Earl
Hubbard, Director, N. C. Stream Sanitation Commission.
Kannapolis Sanitary District was represented by-
Mr. John Oehler, Chairman, Kannapolis Sanitary District
Mr. King, Engineer
Mr. Bachman Brown, Attorney
This delegation advocated the down grading of Coldwater Creek from
Class A -2 to Class D.
Cabarrus Soil and Water Conservation District was represented
by- Mr. L. D. Coltrane, III'
Mr. S. W. Colerider, Jr.
Mr. J. Lewis Patterson
Mr. W. E. Cook
Mr. W. H. Cato
This delegation advocated the reclassification of Coldwater Creek
be not lower than Class B.
Mr. Patterson reported that Mr. Hubbard endeavored to be fair
to both parites. However, Mr. Hubbard was of the opinion that
the classification of Coldwater Creek would have to be lowered
to Class D in order for the Kannapolis Sanitary District to
operate under their proposed plan.
Mr. Patterson also reported, if our Board of Supervisors is not
satisfied with this classification, Mr. Hubbard willingly offered
to hold public hearings in Cabarrus County, at which he will have
a representative present to present all facts in the matter.
Our Board discussed Mr. Patterson's report at length. It was
decided that the committee continue to investigate the problem,
as we are not satisfied with a D classification for Coldwater
Creek. There is no public recreation place in Cabarrus County
for swimming, bathing, or water skiing, and plans at present are
being considered for establishing such a recreation facility on
Coldwater Creek. Control of the supply and pollution of water is
not only important but vital to the future health and welfare of
the people of Cabarrus County.
Chairman Coltrane appointed W. E. Cook as an additional member of
the COLDWATER CREEK RECLASSIFICATION COMMITTEE.
4. The meeting with representatives from Rowan and Iredell Counties
at Bames Restaurant scheduled for November 15 has been changed to
November 22 because of an unavoidable conflict.
5. Chairman Coltrane called a Special Meeting of the Supervisors to
meet for a Dutch Luncheon at the Hotel Concord, Friday, November
12 at 12:00 noon. Mr. Lonnie Thompson will be present to discuss
details of the proposed watershed improvement program.
