Meeting No. 74 continued <br />Committee Reports: <br />Education: <br />Mr. Coltrane called. on Dr. Brown MIcAllister to empress his comments, on the <br />accomplishments of the Conservation Educational projects promoted in Cabarrus <br />County Schools during the past year and to explain to the members present <br />his proposed project for the coming gear. <br />Dr. McAllister corrruiented that interest in Coil and Water Conservation greatly <br />increased during the past year and especially so among the seventh grade <br />students who had worked so dill.igently to learn more about Conservation and <br />what it can and should mean to all citizens, <br />Dr. McAllister :eelt that the Speech Contest and the Scrapbook Contest for <br />the year 1968 had proven to be most successful. <br />1 <br />Dr. mcA lis ter then presented his two (2) phase ideas of Conservation work <br />for the coming year. <br />lst Phase: .•pith the help of Mr. Write, Dr. McAllister plans to develop a <br />tour of Cabarrus County with seventh grade students of all the <br />County Schools. The object of the tour trill be to point out <br />Conservation practices of all natural resources, including; <br />,J ldlife, Forestry and other practices. In addition, the tour <br />will point out needs for Conservation and other special sites. <br />The tour i s planned to take place in the mall. <br />2nd Phase: A public speaking; contest will be held to better train the <br />studen ts to speak before ro 4tps . Topics f or the speeches will <br />be about Conservation. t °?inninv speeches wi again be awarded <br />prizes from the District. <br />Tuesday niSht, July 2, 1968, =jade Carter, Jr. and pill Campbell, III reported <br />to the Cabarrus Soil. and :eater Conservation, District Supervisors on the 1968 <br />Conservation Workshop in Raleigh. The workshop was held June 10-14, 1968 at <br />-' ort.h Carolina State University. Both toys were sponsored b the Cabarr ns <br />District. It was attended by 129 boys and 2 girls from 87 Counties of North <br />Caroli 'their selection was based on their outstanding work in 4 —H, C`F'A, <br />and other Agricultural interest in recent years. <br />TA reports gave a detailed account, of the classes in souls, Biology, <br />reservation Planning, Forestry and ?1ildlif e. <br />ads Carter was complimented by Mr. Coltrane and membe of t District <br />for i `1_ s ou t a'[ an € nZ accomplis He placed SECOND highest a7t1onS the <br />131. students, and received a �SC.00 Savings Pond. After thanking the Supervisors <br />for sending them to the brkshopa both said they believed the Arks ??op <br />should be a two week course. <br />
