6. Committee reports: <br />Education: <br />Edwin Tucker will be_ ,_represf; District at the Resource <br />Conservation Workshop in Raleigh. <br />Finance: <br />The District Board authorized the Treasurer to issue a check <br />to Edwin in the amount of $100.00 for workshop expenses. <br />Watershed: <br />Mr. John Garrett, Watershed Coordinator told the group that an <br />extremely important step to consider in the watershed work plan would <br />be local interest and public interest. lie emphasized the importance <br />of numerous meetings that should be held with local sponsors and the <br />public to create the interest and concern to produce a successful <br />watershed work plan. <br />Mr. Garrett explained that two items must be considered to produce <br />a select watershed work plan; an optimum Natural Economic Development <br />plan and Environmental Quality plan. <br />Mr. Garrett informed those present of the status of the Coddle- <br />Coldwater-Dutch Buffalo Creeks watershed work plan to date. <br />Mr. Garrett explained that land treatment included in the select plan <br />will be accelerated. <br />Mr. Royce Cspey, Engineer with the Watershed Planning Staff explained <br />the economic data and alternatives of multi-purpose and single purpose <br />structure sites. Studies and material presented were made of the <br />Dutch Buffalo Creek area. Illustrations of costs, alternatives of <br />structure sites and feasibility of each was presented. Mr. Espey <br />answered questions from the group concerning costs, land treatment <br />and best alternatives for flood prevention, multi-purpose use and <br />recreation in those proposed sites of the watershed work plan. <br />Mr. Jim Ciitmings, Soil Conservationist with the Watershed Planning <br />Staff presented important environmental elements that needed to be <br />considered in the watershed. Mr. Cummings reported collecting data <br />from biologists in order to outline a preliminary draft of things that <br />could be done towards management, preservation or enhancement of <br />especially valuable resources of fish, wildlife and areas of natural <br />beauty. Estimated costs, outlined construction procedures and <br />proposed locations were presented of: <br />A. Areas of natural beauty for human enjoyment. <br />B. Fish management, ehnancement and preservation. <br />C. Wildlife management, enhancement and preservation. <br />Mr. Cummings explained that the material presented at this meeting <br />was just one of the many studies of environmental elements to be <br />considered in the watershed, <br />
