1 0 <br />' LAID _:US <br />Mr. Frank Herrin reported on the need for improving public <br />relations and establishing a. closer relationship with the <br />County Commissioners. Mr. Herrin explained that so many of <br />the local employees of the various agencies were not in <br />public contact concerning their functions of the different <br />jobs. <br />Watershed tours are to be held in the area. �June 26 at <br />Cane Creek in Union County and July 19 at the Bear Swamp <br />Watershed in Perquimans County. <br />i. District Conservationist report:_ <br />a. Accomplishments were: 38 new'. contacts made, 61 <br />contacts of cooperators, 2 Units of government assis <br />175 acres of protected land, 30 acres of new cooperato <br />and revisions, 173 acres adequately protected and 82 <br />acres of land adequately treated. I I <br />b. A change in procedures for ordering fish has been <br />received in the mail. Cut off date is July Ist and a <br />orders are to go directly to the hatchery. I <br />c. A copy of the Soil Survey Interim report was available <br />for those present and it was reported a copy was <br />presented to the County Commissioner. at their regular <br />meeting. <br />f. A comment was made of the results of the questionaire <br />of priorities of work distributed to make a survey of tht <br />most important needs in the county. <br />g. The District Conservationist wrote to the Green Thumb, <br />a,program providing public part time service,of employme <br />for Districts. I <br />vigil "Olft <br />Mr. Price requested suggestions to update the Districts Long <br />Range Program. He stated the District Supervisors needed to <br />present their ideas or 'information to be used when the program <br />is to be updated. A period of time was devoted to discussing <br />what the needs were and problems that should'be considered. <br />
