MINUTES <br />CABARRUS SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT <br />SUPERVISORS MEETING <br />MEETING NO: 217 <br />DATE: December 11, 1979 Agriculture Center 7 :10 P.M. - 9:30 P.M. <br />Home Extension Lab <br />PRESENT: <br />J. Wetmore <br />Prior to the regular meeting, the Annual Speech contest sponsored by the <br />Cabarrus District was held in the Home Extension Lab of the Agriculture <br />Center. Chairman Patterson welcomed the parents, teachers, guesta and the <br />contestants to the program. <br />Rev. Tom Hogan, Education Chairman conducted the rogram. Each contestant gave <br />their speech by drawing a number. The topic was Tants, How They Affect <br />Our Environment". <br />Mike Crean- Daily. Independent and Frankie Furr-Concord Tribune were present <br />to take pictures for the newspapers. <br />The three judges retired to make their decisions of the winners after all <br />contestants delivered their speech. <br />Our judges were <br />Marcelle Millaway- County Commissioner <br />Dr. Nelson R. 1u ally -Area VIII Chairman of Districts <br />Thomas H. Wetmore-Area Conservationist for SCS <br />Rev, Tom Hogan and Chairman Patterson presented placues to Mr. and Mis. <br />John Barrier-"Conservation Farm Family of the Year-1979" and to Mr. and Mrs. <br />W. M. Teeter-Wildlife Award winner chosen by the District for 1979. <br />The judges returned with the following decision: <br />Rev. Hogan explained the Area VIII Speech contest will be announced at a <br />later date. <br />The three (1) judges received blankets as gifts from the District for their <br />participation in our program. <br />
