i <br />b. Mr. Herrin distributed Soil Stewardship Week sample material for review. <br />A decision will be made at the March meeting of the Soil Stewardship <br />material the District wishes to purchase. Soil Stewardship Week is <br />May 16 -23, 1982. <br />c. A discussion was held concerning the District's participation in <br />offering prize money to help with 4 -H projects. A motion was made, <br />seconded and passed approving $20.00 toward conservation projects by 4 -H. <br />LAND -USE: (Moose) <br />Mr. Lipe Barrier reported on an article in the Charlotte Observer about erosion. <br />'WATERSHEDS: (Barrier - Overcash) <br />A meeting was held concerning the Coddle- Co(Idwater -Dutch Buffalo Creeks <br />watershed project after the Final Acre Ceremony at Reed Mine. <br />Since that meeting, numerous telephone calls, several contacts, and other <br />meetings with watershed personnel from Raleigh, County Commissioners and others <br />have been held to discuss the watershed project. Plans are being made to <br />schedule another meeting in March to discuss the project. <br />Commissioner Harold Nash reported attending a meeting in Charlotte with the <br />Council of Governments concerning water development on Rocky River. <br />7. The District Conservationist, Hugh Price, gave the following report: <br />a. Reported updating the Resource Inventory map. He reported that in 1977 <br />28,000 acres were Urban buildup and in 1982, 40,000 acres are in urban <br />buildup. <br />b. Mr. Price recommended that two conservation plans be cancelled: <br />J. A. Howell and Clyde L. Propst, Sr. <br />c. A report was made that 254 acres of conservation planning were completed <br />and 7,475 acres: -of soil survey were completed during the month of January. <br />d. A report was made that maps needed for soils to be computerized will be <br />delayed approximately one month. <br />e. Mr. Price commented on a newsletter concerning the Governor's 1983 <br />Clean Water Bond Act. Explanations were made of the SCS, local and <br />state funding for watershed projects. <br />8. NEW BUSINESS: <br />The 1982 -1983 budgets for the District supervisors and Watershed Commissioners <br />will need to be prepared. The requests will need to be in the County Managers <br />office approximately the first week of April. Mr. Herrin expressed the need <br />of the County appropriating funds to hire Bill Hull to help work in the District. <br />9. NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, March 9, 1982, Agriculture Center 7:00 P.M. <br />10. A motion was made, seconded and passed to adjourn the meeting. <br />A.
