MINUTES <br />CABARRUS SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT <br />SUPERVISORS MEETING <br />MEETING NO: 257 <br />DATE: April 12, 1983 Agriculture Center 7:30 P.M. - 9:30 P.M. <br />PRESENT: <br />SUPERVISORS: A. Frank Herrin, C. Lipe Barrier, Dr. Marvin P. Rozear, <br />Whitaker Moose, Paul Bowles <br />WATERSHED: Carl Overcash, C. William Cook <br />OFFICE: Hugh D. Price, Billy W. Hull <br />OTHER: Harold Nash, Archie W. Barnhardt, Kenneth Payne, <br />Terry Adair, Mary A. McDaniel, Rhonda Innes, <br />Judy Thornton <br />1. Chairman Herrin recognized Terry Adair from Phillip Morris. <br />Mr. Adair presented an interesting slide film presentation on <br />the history and operation of Phillip Morris Industries. Mr. Adair <br />stressed they were happy to be in Cabarrus County and appreciated <br />the way they had been received. He plans to organize tours in <br />the future so groups or individuals can tour the plant. He also <br />expressed a desire to work with the Soil Conservation Service in <br />developing plans for the farm land owned by Phillip Morris. <br />2. Chairman Herrin recognized Rhonda Innes, Mecklenburg Supervisor <br />of Soil and Water Conservation District, who in turn presented <br />Mary A. McDaniel, Associate Director, Piedmont Waste Exchange <br />Urban Institute, and Judy Thornton, Sierra Club. <br />Ms. McDaniel said the Piedmont Waste Exchange serves as a <br />clearing house for disposing of waste material and urged the <br />public, especially industry, to use this service. <br />Mrs. Thornton discussed the work of the Sierra Club and how it <br />works to improve the environment. <br />3. Chairman Herrin called the regular meeting of the Cabarrus Soil <br />and Water Conservation District to order: <br />a. Motion was made and passed approving the March minutes. <br />b. Mr. Herrin mentioned that everyone by now knew of Eyvonne <br />McDaniel's accident, but wanted to call it to the attention <br />of the group. <br />1) A motion was made by Lipe Barrier, seconded by <br />Dr. Rozear, that the district pay for Mrs. McDaniel's <br />TV rental while she was in the hospital. This will be <br />paid from the petty cash fund. <br />2) Dr. Rozear came by the hospital on the way to the <br />meeting and reported Mrs. McDaniel was in good spirits. <br />3) Those present signed a card to be sent to Mrs. McDaniel. <br />
