MINUTES <br />CABARRUS SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT <br />SUPERVISORS MEETING <br />MEETING NO. 260 <br />DATE: July 12, 1983 Agriculture Center 8:00 - 10:00 p.m. <br />PRESENT: <br />SUPERVISORS: F. Herrin, L. Barrier, W. Moore, M. Rozear <br />WA TERSHED : C. Overcash <br />OFFICE: H. Price, B. Hull, M. Shannon <br />1. Chairman Herrin opened the meeting calling upon Bill Hull for the <br />invocation. <br />2. A motion was made and carried approving the June minutes. <br />3. Dr. Rozear reported a balance of $704.16 net cash in bank. There were no <br />outstanding bills since the June meeting. <br />4. Mr. Herrin requested Bill Hull to work on the Fair Exhibit. Mr. Hull <br />agreed to work on some ideas for approval at the August meeting. <br />Mr. Hull discussed the upcoming Conservation Tours and the continuation <br />of these tours was given unanimous approval by the Board <br />Mr. Hull reported there is a need for landscaping around the District signs. <br />It was decided to use chemical weed killer to control grass and weeds. He <br />volunteered to take care of this. <br />It was also suggested that Mr. Measmer, Cabarrus County's candidate for <br />Farm Family of the Year, be recognized in some way at a future meeting <br />of the Board. <br />5. Mr. Moose reviewed information on recent articles concerning woodlots and <br />wood production. Some research now indicates that small woodlots are not <br />profitable for commrcial production of lumber. Considerable discussion <br />pursued on whether the District should extensively promote forestry, since <br />it may not be profitable to the landowner. <br />6. Mr. Barrier reported that the first allocation of funds has been spent on <br />stream clearing. There has been an additional $15,000. approved for this <br />project in the new budget. He stressed the importance of stream clearing <br />and maintenance to everyone in the County. Clearing will be resumed and <br />continued to the extent of the funds available. <br />7. Mr. Overcash read a letter he had received from the State Conservationist <br />regarding Planning Report on the Coddle, Coldwater, Dutch- Buffalo <br />Watershed Project. <br />8. Expense vouchers for this meeting were signed by the Supervisors. <br />
