MINUTES 251 <br />CABARRUS SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT <br />Supervisors Meeting <br />MEET ING NO: 281 <br />................ <br />DATE: April 9, 1985 Agriculture Center 7:30 P.M. -9:30 P.M. <br />SUPERVISORS: Whitaker Moose, Lipe Barrier, Frank Herrin, John Hamill, Jinmty Little <br />WATERSHED: Jerry Hanudll, Tommy Smith <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONER: Archie Barnhardt <br />OTHER: Hugh Price, Bill Hull, Eyvonne McDaniel <br />Chairman, Whitaker Moose turned the meeting over to Vice - Chairman Frank Herrin <br />asking him to preside because he must leave the meeting before all items of business <br />were conducted. <br />1. Vice - Cha irman Herrin called the meeting to order. Hugh Price gave the Invocation. <br />2. A motion was made and passed approving the March minutes. <br />3. Chairman's report: <br />Items covered at this meeting for review and discussion were: (a) letter from <br />Bud Mecke7burg (March 21) on budgets and appropriations; (b) N. C. Wildlife <br />Forest Service Environmental Educational Workshop; (c) N. C. Wildlife Commission <br />Workshops; (d) letter from Steve Bennett (March 28) Spring Conservation Retreat; <br />(e) letter from David Holland (April 5) on House and Senate Budget Committees and <br />(f) B & B Enterprises 50th anniversary conservation belt buckles for sale. <br />4. FINANCE: (John Hamill) <br />April 9, 1985 NET CASH IN BANK <br />$1,322.89 <br />John Hamill reported that Area 8 dues ($50.00) and N. C. Association dues ($139.00) <br />needed approval for payment. A motion was made, seconded and passed that the <br />dues be paid. <br />5. EDUCATION: (Frank Herrin) <br />a. A report was made that Frank and Doris Herrin attended the Area VIII Speech <br />contest held in Salisbury at Rowan Tech on March 10th. Brice Pender of <br />Northwest Middle School was lst place winner at the Cabarrus District contest <br />in December of 1984 and, with pride, to the Cabarrus District, Brice was <br />lst place winner in Area VIII. The Cabarrus District had the lst place <br />Area winner in 1984 and Brice was lst place winner in 1985. <br />Brice will be eligible for the State Speech contest in May. <br />b. Bill Hull, District Technician, reported on the Land Judging contest held on <br />Mickey Watts farm March 26th. Represented wire teams from Rowan county <br />schools, Mt. Pleasant, Northwest High and Central Cabarrus Schools. Mt. <br />Pleasant was lst place winner and are to compete in the State contest on <br />April 13th. <br />c. John Hamnill reported tht several names had been considered to receive the <br />FARM FAMILY OF THE YEAR AWARD -1985. After discussion, a motion was made, <br />seconded and passed selecting Ralph Bonds to receive the FARM FAMILY OF THE <br />YEAR AWARD for 1985. John Hamill was Chairman of a committee of Paul Bowles <br />and Eddie Moose to make recommendations for this award to the supervisors. <br />
