MINUTES 251 CABARRUS SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT Supervisors Meeting MEET ING NO: 281 ................ DATE: April 9, 1985 Agriculture Center 7:30 P.M. -9:30 P.M. SUPERVISORS: Whitaker Moose, Lipe Barrier, Frank Herrin, John Hamill, Jinmty Little WATERSHED: Jerry Hanudll, Tommy Smith COUNTY COMMISSIONER: Archie Barnhardt OTHER: Hugh Price, Bill Hull, Eyvonne McDaniel Chairman, Whitaker Moose turned the meeting over to Vice - Chairman Frank Herrin asking him to preside because he must leave the meeting before all items of business were conducted. 1. Vice - Cha irman Herrin called the meeting to order. Hugh Price gave the Invocation. 2. A motion was made and passed approving the March minutes. 3. Chairman's report: Items covered at this meeting for review and discussion were: (a) letter from Bud Mecke7burg (March 21) on budgets and appropriations; (b) N. C. Wildlife Forest Service Environmental Educational Workshop; (c) N. C. Wildlife Commission Workshops; (d) letter from Steve Bennett (March 28) Spring Conservation Retreat; (e) letter from David Holland (April 5) on House and Senate Budget Committees and (f) B & B Enterprises 50th anniversary conservation belt buckles for sale. 4. FINANCE: (John Hamill) April 9, 1985 NET CASH IN BANK $1,322.89 John Hamill reported that Area 8 dues ($50.00) and N. C. Association dues ($139.00) needed approval for payment. A motion was made, seconded and passed that the dues be paid. 5. EDUCATION: (Frank Herrin) a. A report was made that Frank and Doris Herrin attended the Area VIII Speech contest held in Salisbury at Rowan Tech on March 10th. Brice Pender of Northwest Middle School was lst place winner at the Cabarrus District contest in December of 1984 and, with pride, to the Cabarrus District, Brice was lst place winner in Area VIII. The Cabarrus District had the lst place Area winner in 1984 and Brice was lst place winner in 1985. Brice will be eligible for the State Speech contest in May. b. Bill Hull, District Technician, reported on the Land Judging contest held on Mickey Watts farm March 26th. Represented wire teams from Rowan county schools, Mt. Pleasant, Northwest High and Central Cabarrus Schools. Mt. Pleasant was lst place winner and are to compete in the State contest on April 13th. c. John Hamnill reported tht several names had been considered to receive the FARM FAMILY OF THE YEAR AWARD -1985. After discussion, a motion was made, seconded and passed selecting Ralph Bonds to receive the FARM FAMILY OF THE YEAR AWARD for 1985. John Hamill was Chairman of a committee of Paul Bowles and Eddie Moose to make recommendations for this award to the supervisors.
