MINUTES <br />CABARRUS SOITIAND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT <br />SUPERVISORS MEET ING <br />MEETING NO: 306 <br />DATE: May 19, 1987 Agriculture Center 8:30 P.M. - 10:20 P.M. <br />NOTE: THIS IS NOT A PAID MEETING FOR SUPERVISORS -NO QUORUM WAS PRESENT. <br />THESE MINUTES ARE ONLY FOR INFORMATION. <br />SUPERVISORS: Frank Herrin, Claude Kuykendall <br />GUEST: Mitch Black - Representative to Resource Conservation Workshop <br />OTHER: Hugh D. Price, Eyvonne S. McDaniel <br />1. Chairman Herrin called the meeting to order. Hugh Price gave the Invocation. <br />Chairman Herrin welcomed Mitch Black to the meeting. <br />2. Minutes of the APRIL meeting were mailed to all members of the District Board. <br />3. Anthony J. Philippo of American Farmland Trust was not present. (See attached <br />letter). <br />4. Mitch Black gave an excellent report on his activities at Central Cabarrus <br />High School involving his achievements in Agricultural classes and with the <br />FFA Chapter. <br />5. The report of the District Conservationist, Hugh D. Price is attached to <br />these minutes. <br />6. Chairman's report: <br />a. Soil and Water Division Director, David Sides Review of Environmental <br />Assessment of Proposed Cabarrus County Airport (see attached). <br />b. The Brown Creek Soil and Water District (Anson County) will be celebrating <br />the 50th year of conservation on Saturday, August 1, 1987. <br />Arrangements have been made for the Cabarrus District to have an exhibit <br />at the celebration. <br />FI NANCE: ( Kuykendall) May 19, 1987 NET CASH IN BANK $818.79 <br />EDUCATION (Herrin) <br />a. Judges have been selected to judge the CONSERVATION FARM FAMILY entries <br />for an AREA VIII winner - They will be judging farms on May 26 and May 27. <br />b. 900 booklets on " Plants..Environment" have been received to be distributed <br />to 5th grade students. <br />c. Information on SOIL AND WATER STEWARDSHIP WEEK (May 24 -31) has been <br />distributed to the Radio station WEGO and the newspapers. 12,000 <br />book markers have been distributed to churches, Christian Book stores, <br />Hospital, Drs. offices, public libraries and other organizations. <br />d. The Resource Conservation Workshop will be held June 21 -26 at N. C. State <br />University -Mitch Black will represent Cabarrus District. <br />e. Steve Jackson - Agriculture Teacher will be the counselor for AREA VIII <br />at the Resource Conservation Workshop. <br />f. Ed Church, Jr. and Frank Herrin met with County school officials (for <br />Bishop) on May 15th to offer and discuss educational programs to several <br />grade levels. <br />
