��iAWM <br />CABARRUS SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT <br />SUPERVISORS MEETING <br />MEETING NO: 312 <br />DATE: December 7, 1987 Agriculture Learning Center 7:00 p.m. 9:30 p.m. <br />FARM FAMILY OF THE YEAR <br />ANNUAL SPEECH CONTEST <br />SUPERVISORS: Frank Herrin, Jimmy Little, Claude Kuykendall, C. Lipe Barrier, Sr., <br />ASSOCIATE SUPERVISOR: Paul Bowles <br />OFFICE: Hugh Price, E. E. Bishop, Alan Hendrickson, Eyvonne McDaniel <br />GUESTS: Parents, teachers, students and Farm Family <br />Prior to the business meeting, Chairman Herrin welcomed 45 people to the Annual <br />Farm Family Award presentation and the speech contest. <br />The FARM FAMILY OF THE YEAR - 1987 award was presented to the Everett C. Voncannon <br />family. The conservation plan with the Cabarrus District has been in existence <br />since 1967. Farming operations through the years have changed. Improved farming <br />operations and conservation practices used by the Voncannon family has rewarded <br />them with one of the most profitable farms in Cabarrus County. <br />The eight (8) contestants participating in the speech contest were: Langley <br />Kivette and Dale Cranfield (CONCORD MIDDLE SCHOOL); Candace Grey, Becky St. John, <br />Rhett Brown, David Palazzo, Justin Cole and Heather Carpenter (NORTHWEST MIDDLE <br />SCHOOL) . <br />Chairman Herrin introduced our judges for the contest: <br />Mrs. Mildred Watts - Teacher -A. L. Brown School <br />Mr. David Goff -N. C. Agriculture Extension Agent -4 -H <br />Mr. Lee Johnson - Treasurer -Gold Mine Toastmasters' Club <br />Each speech contestant was judged on specific points. <br />Chairman Hexrin,announced the winners: <br />First Place Candace Grey $25.00 <br />Second Place Justin Cole 15.00 <br />Third Place David Palazzo 10.00 <br />The remaining five (5) contestants received certificates of appreciation for their <br />participation and efforts. <br />Mrs. Susan Furr from the Concord Tribune was present to take pictures of both events. <br />Refreshments were served after the programs. <br />1. Chairman Herrin called the business meeting to order. Hugh Price gave the <br />Invocation. <br />2. The District supervisors unanimously approved the NOVEMBER minutes. <br />3. The report from Hugh D. Price, District Conservationist, is attached to these <br />minutes. <br />
