Cabarrus <br />Soil A Water Conservation <br />SOIL &WATER <br />745 Cabarrus Avenue, West <br />District C 0 NSERVATION Concord, North Carolina 28027 <br />Supervisors Present <br />Frank Herrin <br />Myra Morrison <br />Doug Harkey <br />Johnny Foil <br />Tuesday, October 10, 1995 <br />Others Present <br />Richard Taylor <br />Matthew Kinane <br />Helen Barnes <br />Dennis Testerman <br />Whit Moose notified staff that he would not be able to attend the <br />meeting due to a pharmacology meeting in Nevada. <br />The meeting was held at the County Agriculture Center at 745 Cabarrus <br />Avenue West, Concord, NC. <br />1. Myra Morrison, Vice-Chairman, called the meeting to order. <br />She reported on an ECCO Meeting with Board of Commissioners Barnhart <br />and Fennel relative to stream cleaning. <br />2. The minutes from the September 12, 1995 Board meeting were reviewed <br />MOTION: THAT THE MINUTES FROM THE SEPTEMBER 12, 1995 BOARD MEETING BE <br />APPROVED. M/H.AIU!,EY, S/FOIL, C. <br />3. NRCS/FSA REPORT - Matt Kinane, DC <br />3.1 Forest Stewardship - is ongoing. Plans have been completed <br />for David Goforth and Ron McGraw. <br />3.2 Technical assistance given: <br />- 30 farms/businesses were contacted during the month. <br />- 29 walk were assisted <br />3.3 CRP Sign-Up No. 13 ended September 22, 1995. Five tracts <br />were signed up, but all may not be accepted into the program <br />due to low scores. Matt noted that standards were stricter <br />than in previous signups. He said that USDA is hoping this <br />will put back some of the acreage that has been taken out of <br />CRP in recent months. <br />3.4 A plan for Tract No. 724 owned by William Hampton West was <br />presented to the Board for approval. <br />MOTION: THAT THE ABOVE CITED PLAN BE APPROVED. INFORMATION/EDUCATION - Dennis Testerman <br />4.1 Big Sweep - 35 students and - teachers from Concord Middle <br />School collected 200 lbs. of litter from streams near the <br />school. Dennis indicated that the rainy weather kept many <br />people from participating this year. <br />4.2 Conservation Field Days ended last week in county schools as <br />well as private schools. About 1,200 students participated. <br />Dennis indicated that fields days were very successfully this <br />year. <br />
