Frank Herrin, Chairperson, called the meeting to order. <br />2. The minutes from the February 4, 1997 and March 5, 1997 Board meetings <br />were reviewed. <br />MOTION: THAT THE MINUTES FROM THE FEBRUARY 4, 1997 AND MARCH <br />5, 1997 BOARD <br />MEETINGS BE APPROVED. M /MORRISON, S /MOOSE, C. <br />3. INFORMATION /EDUCATION - Dennis Testerman <br />4.1 Annual conservation poster & essay contest awards ceremony was held at the Cannon <br />Library in Concord on February 13. Concord Tribune story on the winners appeared on <br />February 23. Eight of the ten poster winners and the all three essay winners attended along <br />with their families and school staff. One hundred and fifty posters and ten essays from seven <br />schools were entered this year. <br />4.2 Area VIII contest was held on March 22 with 9 of 11 districts participating and 50 people <br />attending; 7 essays, 20 posters and 8 speeches were judged. Cabarrus SWCD results: <br />Michele Sailer, Cresthaven Home School, 1st place, 3rd grade poster; <br />Ashley Rary, Jackson Park Elementary School, 2nd place, 4th grade poster; <br />Chris White, Cabarrus Academy, 2nd place, 5th grade poster <br />Mais Hasan, Mt. Pleasant Middle School, 2nd place, essay; <br />Amanda Cuthberson, Mt. Pleasant Middle School, 2nd place, 7th grade speech; and <br />Marie Morgann, Cabarrus Academy, honorable mention, 8th grade speech. <br />Michele Sailer's poster on composting has been entered in the state poster contest. <br />
