This is the large project that was started a year ago. There have been several public
meetings and they are now getting down to the final draft. He gave the Park Commission a
brief history and brought them up to date on the items in the document that were modified
since the July 2009 meeting. This is the future regional greenway and trail system that
connects fifteen counties; eleven in North Carolina and four in South Carolina. He gave a
report on the outreach meeting with local organizations trying to generate support for the
Carolina Thread Trail in Lancaster County, SC, Union County, NC, Anson County, Iredell County,
Cherokee, County and Rowan County. He said Union County will be next after Stanley on this
side of the region. Fourteen of the fifteen counties have adopted a resolution of support, with
Rowan County being the hold out. The beginning of the process is well on its way. Mr.
Morehead presented a review of the map of the Carolina Thread Trail proposed connections.
Following the presentation by Travis Morehead, Jim Guess, made a motion, seconded by
Shannon Glenn, to approve the Carolina Thread Trail Cabarrus County Greenway Masterplan as
written and to send to the Board of Commissioners for adoption.
