<br />Cabarrus County Parks Commission <br />Minutes <br />January 15, 2009 <br /> <br />The Cabarrus County Parks Commission met on January 15, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. in the <br />Guardian Ad Litem meeting room located at 2325 Concord Lake Road, Concord. <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Chairman Howard Hurlocker and silent roll was <br />taken. Chairman Howard Hurlocker entertained a motion to accept the minutes from <br />the November 20, 2008 meeting. A motion was made by Dick Snyder to accept the <br />minutes as presented. John Parker seconded the motion and the motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />Old Business <br /> <br />Goals and Mission of the Cabarrus County Parks Department and Park <br />1. <br />Commission - <br /> Londa Strong <br />This agenda item was presented by Director Londa Strong. Information was <br />presented to the Commission in reference to the future direction of the Parks <br />Commission for their review. A list of the mission statements from various <br />organizations was presented to the Commission for their review. Director Londa <br />Strong asked for input, suggestions, and some ideas on descriptors for a revised <br />Mission Statement for Cabarrus County Parks Commission. It was <br />recommended by Dick Snyder that it should be a Mission Statement that is easily <br />remembered. Other members recommended “Enrich Quality of Life”, and <br />provide resources of Cabarrus County should be included in the statement. <br /> <br />The following is the recommended Mission Statement revised by the Parks <br />Commission: <br /> <br />“To enrich the quality of life by providing high quality recreation and education <br />opportunities in harmony with natural resource preservation.” <br /> <br />Director Londa Strong will compile examples of future visions and ideas and <br />forward them to the Parks Commission. Dick Snyder agreed to work with Londa <br />in preparing a vision and goals. <br /> <br />Nominating Committee Report <br /> 2. – Howard Hurlocker / Steve Sciascia <br /> This agenda item was presented by Chair of the Nominating Committee, Steve <br />Sciascia. Steve Sciascia informed the Commission that Charles Mitchell for the <br />Kannapolis School Board and Andrea Palo for the Cabarrus County School <br />Board were reappointed for another term by the school boards. Shannon Glenn <br />and Steve Sciascia agreed for reappointment to the board for another term. <br />Since Jimmy Morrison is not eligible to serve another term he suggested a <br />couple of people that might be interested in serving for the Central Planning area <br /> <br />
