Cabarrus County
Parks and Recreation Deparlmen R ~ O k I V
,. o.,o~ 7o7 co,cord N.C. 2SO:6~707 ~'°~ 7I"'7~AI~ ~ ~8~ J
/ ~,,~'.~Lge - DiJectot

January 30, 1989

Mr. Michael Ruffle
County Manager

From: Mr~ Steve L. Little, Director
Cabarrus Cpunty Park~ and Recreation Department

Subject: Playground Equipment Bids

This letter is in reference to the Playground Equipment Formal
bids for the FY 1988-89. Formal Advert{sement Was published for this
bid on Sunday, January 1, 1989, in the Cabarrus Netghbor~ - Charlotte
Observer. Twelve bid packages were mailed to playground and park
equipment vendors.

On January 27, 1989, at 11:00 a.m. five bids wer~ received and
opened publicly. The following page provides a summary of these bids.
The bid opecifications were divided into four projects:

(1) Bethel Elementary School Playground Project, (2) Long E×ceptional
School Playground Project, (3) Harrisburg Elementary School Playground
Project, and (4) Coltrane Webb Elementary School Playground Prdject.
All four of the~e projects are incentive matching grants projects based
on at least 50~ match~ug funds from community organizatloo~. Th,:
Parents Teachers Organization or P.T.O. at these renpective nchools
have provided matching funds toward these projects. The role et the
school sites provides a vital key in the provision of recreational
opportunities for citizens of Cabarrus County. Cabsrrus County utilizes
tho school sites in a dual role a~ neighborhood and community parks.
Many school sites are adequate in size to serve both educational and
recreational needs. In addition, many sites are conveniently located
and already have some facilities for recreation. Most of the sites
provide recreation opportunities for each member o~ the family. They
should contain a playlet for small children, a ballfield with a 60-foot
diamond for softball and youth baseball, an open field for fall sport~,
an apparatus area for older children, and a multiple use slab for
basketball, volleyball, and similar court games.
