643 i <br /> <br />month. <br /> <br /> Attorney Davis also assisted the Board in canvassing the votes of results <br />of the fire elections in Jackson Park and Coldwater Volunteer Fire Departments <br />districts held on July 20, 1968. Statements of the results of these elections <br />are recorded on page ~ and __~___.. and become a part of these minutes. <br /> <br /> Attorney Davis advised the Board that the lawsuit brought by American Air <br />Surveys against the County had been settled out of court and Commissioners <br />approved payment of the balance owed to American Air Surveys of $6900.00. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Rankin presented a statement from the Health Board requesting <br />permission for the Health Department to conduct a study of a plan for a County <br />Health Center and the possibility of acquiring some of the forJmer Country Club <br />property now owned by the Cabarrus Hospital for the location of a Health Center. <br />After a discussion, motion was made by Rankin, seconded by Beasley, to approve <br />the Health Board's request. Vote carried. <br /> <br /> County ~anager Hurt discussed with the Board the hiring of a building and <br />plumbing inspector and requested clarification of the compensation for the <br />inspector. After discussion, the Board instructed Mr. Hurt to advertise for and <br />hire a qualified person and authorized a salary range of $500 to $600 per month <br />plus travel and office expense within the limits of the approved budget. <br /> <br /> Attorney James C. Johnson discussed the Kale-Lawing lease and the possible <br /> <br />effect the new building plans would have on the current negotiations with <br />Kale-Lawing concerning their lease. Attorney Johnson recommended that a letter <br />be written to Kale-Lawing Co. advising them that the change in building plans <br />enable thereto remain in the building throughout the term of their lease. The <br />Board instructed County Manager Hurt to write this letter. <br /> <br /> County Manager Hurt reported that he had received a request from the <br /> <br />Republican Executive Committee for permission to rent the former Firestone build- <br />ing on Corban Avenue for two months at the same rate of rent the former tenant <br />George Wilcox had paid. The Board gave permission for the building to be rented <br />at the present rent of $150.00 per month. <br /> <br /> Mr. C. R. Smith, District Engineer, and Mr. T. L. Patterson, Assistant <br /> <br />District Engineer of the State Highway Commission, presented the Board with a <br /> <br />report on the funds allocated for the Secondary Road program in Cabarrus County <br /> <br /> <br />
