McGinnis, County Manager, advised the Board that a <br />study team from the Department of Community Colleges was in the county <br />to conduct the requested study of the educational delivery needs of Cabarrus <br />County and would be available to meet with members of the Board at their <br />convenience. <br /> Mr. Charles D. McGinnis, County Manager, reported that County facilities <br />had received storm damage for the second time in a two-week period. He <br />stated that on the evening of July 15, 1984, lightning had disrupted service <br />of both the communications and telephone system of the Sheriff's Department <br />and had also damaged all the computer terminals located throughout the <br />Courthouse. In addition, he stated that water damage had occurred at the <br />Courthouse, Department of Social Services, and the office at the County <br />Landfill. <br /> Mr. Ed Phillips, Chief of the Allen Volunteer Fire Department, <br />expressed concern regarding the disruption of the radio and telephone <br />service at the Communications Center of the Sheriff's Department on the <br />preceding evening. Stating the need for a backup emergency communications <br />system for law enforcement, fire, and rescue operations in the county, Mr. <br />Phillips questioned the possibility of placing communications equipment at <br />the Emergency Services Department on Cabarrus Avenue to use in the event <br /> <br /> <br />
