Attorney General <br /> <br /> Mr. Ronald L. McMillan, Regional Supervisor of the North Carolina <br />Division of Environmental Management, addressed the Board concerning the <br />pollution of Rocky River. He stated the recent bright green color of <br />Rocky River had been traced to the Mooresville Treatment Plant and had <br />been caused by a Mooresville firm dumping 18,000 gallons of yellow dye <br />in order to repair machinery. Mr. McMillan pointed out that there are no <br />color standards of dye wastes and that similar problems occur at the <br />Mooresville Treatment Plant from four to six times per year. He reported <br />that most industrial dye wastes are not harmful and do not present a <br />problem other than color and blocking out the sunlight necessary for <br />aquatic growth. Mr. McMillan stated that improvements have been made <br />in recent years regarding the pollution of Rocky River and noted that the <br />Mooresville firm had voluntarily agreed to purchase storage tanks to <br />prevent the reoccurrence of the recent problem. He also advised the Board <br />that Mecklenburg County, Davidson, Huntersville, and Cornelius now discharge <br />wastes into the Catawba River Basin and that Mooresville and Concord have new <br />waste treatment plants. <br /> Mr. Rex Gleason, Regional Engineer with the North Carolina Division <br />of Environmental Management, also stressed the fact that there are no color <br />standards for dye wastes. He also reviewed compliance standards for <br />waste treatment plants. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Barnhardt, seconded by Commissioner Hamby <br />and unanimously carried, the Board appointed the following Firemen's Relief <br />Fund Trustees for a term of two years ending January 31, 1988, as recommended <br />by the fire departments. <br /> <br />Allen <br />Cold Water <br />Flowes Store <br />Georgeville <br />Harrisburg <br />Jackson Park <br />Midland <br />Mt.
