Meeting 'No. 21 continued
MEETING OF SUPERVISORS AT CONCORD ROTARY CLUB
A meeting of the Concord Rotary Club was held on September 2, 1964
at Hotel Concord at 12 :30 p.m. A buffet luncheon was enjoyed by
approximately 100 members of the Concord Rotary Club after which
Dr. Vernon H. Youngblood, Rotary Club President, called the meeting
to order. The meeting was then turned over to L. D. Coltrane, III,
Chairman of the Board of Cabarrus Soil and Water Conservation District,
who was in charge of the Rotary program for that day.
Supervisors present for this meeting were: L. D. Coltrane, III, J. Lewis
Patterson, S. W. Colerider, Jr. and Baker Brooks. Mr. S. I. Parker,
our other Supervisor, was unable to be present due to illness.
Special guest who attended this meeting were: Mr. M. S. Lyles and
Mr. Frank McCray, Cabarrus County Commissioners; Mr. W. H. Beckerdite,
Attorney for Cabarrus County; John H. Smith and W. H. Cato, Conser-
vationist; J. Ray Allen, County Agent; J. Archie Smith, Bob Nash and
Lewis Dameron.
Mr. Lewis Dameron was introduced by L. D. Coltrane, III as the speaker
for the program.
Mr. Dameron then spoke for approximately thirty minutes stating the
purpose and functions of his office and then went into great detail
in the subject of watersheds. To illustrate his talk, Mr. Dameron
had a series of slides which very adequately described the improve-
ment program of watersheds. He also stated that the supervisors of
the Cabarrus Soil and Water District had received petitions from the
landowners of all threecf the major watersheds in Cabarrus County and
stated the purpose of the Cabarrus Soil and Water District and the
job that the supervisors were trying to do. His talk was received with
much enthusiasm by the members of the Rotary Club and a question
and answer program showing their enthusiasm was held at the end of
his talk. Mr. Dameron did an excellent job in presenting this
program, and also on answering the questions asked by various members
of the Club.
The meeting adjourned at 1:30 p.m.
5. It was reported that through the courtesy of Mr. Lewis Dameron,
Mr. John Smith had received a device showing a water retaining structure
on a watershed in operation. Mr. Smith exhibited this device at the
Cabarrus County Fair. The exhibit not only attracted wide attention
from attendants at the Fair, but also was selected by the judges as a
price winning exhibit, and was awarded a prize of thirty dollars.
6.
