6. committees: <br />EDUCATION: <br />W <br />a. Mrs. Edith Swaringen has been named as the Instructional Supervisor <br />for the County schools. Mrs. Swaringen is replacing Dr. McAllister <br />who retired at the end of the school term in June 1972. <br />A report was made that Dr. McAllister has been contacted, . but has <br />not yet agreed to accept the position of Associate Supervisor. <br />b. Chairman Colerider called on Edward Cook to give his report of the <br />week in Raleigh attending the Resource Conservation Workshop. <br />Edward presented a very interesting program with slides made of the <br />various conservation programs presented to the students during the <br />week. Edward explained each slide and answered questions. He <br />expressed his appreciation to the Supervisors for being selected <br />as our representative at the Resource Conservation Workshop. <br />FINANCE: <br />As stated before, Form No. 204 for Proposted Budged and Form No. <br />205- Audit report have been forwarded to the State Soil and <br />Water Committee. Form No. 203 will be forwarded within the <br />next few days. <br />PUBLICITY: <br />CONCORD TRIBUNE-June 14, 1972-Notice of budget for Cabarru Soil <br />and Water Conservation District <br />approved. <br />a. A report was made that no reply from the State office has been <br />received as to when we can expect the review of the work plan. <br />b. A letter from Mr. Jesse Hicks was read stating that work plans <br />had been halted due to required work of environmental statements <br />needed on watersheds. <br />7. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: <br />a. The District Supervisors unanimously agreed to the Committees <br />recommendation of 11 THE 1972 FARMER OF THE YEAR" -Mr. Carl O. <br />Overcash. The District will present an award to Mr. Overcash <br />at the September meeting. <br />b. Goodyear score sheets were distributed to those present. The <br />score sheets are to be reviewed at home by both boards, returned <br />and discussed at the August meeting. <br />C. Mr. Price introduced Mr. Hoke A. Wagoner, Jr., to the members. <br />Mr. Wagoner came to work June 12, 1972 as an SCS student trainee. <br />Mr. Wagoner commented that he was impressed in this short time <br />with the cooperation shown between the District Supervisors and <br />SCS personnel. After working in Ashe County last year mostly <br />with farming operations, he stated that Cabarrus County has made <br />a shift to urban work which indicates a need for conservation <br />in this county. <br />
