b. Bill Hull reported on the Land Judging contest held in Rowan <br />County this year on March 29th. Mt. Pleasant was first place <br />winner and will be attending the State Land Judging contest <br />this weekend - -- <br />=c. Dates to remember were reported: May 1 -entry form for <br />Conservation Farm Family of the Year; May 15 -entry form <br />for Resource Conservation Workshop; May 27 -June 3 - Soil <br />Stewardship Week; June 17 -22- Resource Conservation Workshop. <br />Fred Dotger, Jr. chosen as Family of the Year -1984. <br />LAND USE: <br />John Hammill commented on an interesting public meeting held at <br />the Courthouse with the Corp of Engineers on a study of Rocky <br />River. John questioned the outcome of the study but no comment <br />was made. <br />WATERSHED: <br />The Watershed Commissioners presented and unanimously approved <br />their 1984 -1985 proposed budget. The budget will be presented <br />to the County Commissioners for their approval. <br />5. The report of the District Conservationist, Hugh Price, is attached <br />to these minutes. <br />6. NEW BUSINESS: <br />a. After discussing the item on the proposed budget to request <br />funds for the District to purchase a computer, Mr. Coy <br />Garrett reported on the information he had available such <br />as approximate cost, type of computer needed, the possibilities <br />of SCS purchasing part of the equipment and the information <br />a computer could provide in conservation work. He also stated <br />that a computer analyst from Raleigh would be available to <br />meet with Districts interested in purchasing a computer. <br />b. Mr. Wetmore commented that a meeting has been tenatively <br />scheduled with computer systems personnel from Raleigh to <br />meet with districts interested in purchasing a computer. <br />C. Peggy Jackson reported contacting several farm equipment <br />dealers in the County. She gave cost figures on a pasture <br />renovator that the District might be interested in purchasing <br />to rent to the public. Alternatives were given of procedures <br />that could be followed to purchase a machine if the interest <br />existed. <br />d. Mr. Garland Strickland commended the District on their <br />educational programs and their efforts in conservation work <br />in the county. <br />Mr. Strickland presented the District with a plaque to be <br />given to Jay Juhl, our representative at the Area VIII <br />speech contest in Monroe. Jay was first place winner in <br />the area. <br />1 <br />
