EDUCATION: (Frank Herrin)' <br />a. From the Cabarrus Soil and,Water District, Chairman Herrin sent letters <br />to the Principals of the elementary schools requesting their interest <br />in celebration of ARBOR DAY. In cooperation with the Forest Service <br />personnel, they agreed to plant a tree at each of the schools. <br />Response from the Elementary schools has been a tremendous success. <br />A motion was made, seconded and unanimously passed that the District <br />purchase 10 dogwood trees to be planted at each elementary school at <br />the place of their choice. <br />b. A motion was made, seconded and unanimously passed that the District <br />approve expenses for: (1) Land Judging contest (2) Soil and Water <br />Stewardship Week material and (3) Conservation Resource Workshop. <br />A tentative approval was passed to furnish expenses for the Cabarrus <br />speech contest winner if she wins at the Area level. <br />c. A motion was made, seconded and unanimously passed for the District <br />to approve attendance and expenses to the District Emloyees Workshon <br />at Kill Devil Hill -May 23 -25, 1990. <br />This approval was also tentative because no cost figures for the <br />Workshop has been received in the office, as of this date. <br />WATERSHED: (Lipe Barrier) <br />Lipe Barrier reported that streams and creeks were full of debris <br />again since the HUGO storm. Mr. Barrier also suggested, again, that <br />a 1� watershed tax should be levied by the County Commissioners to <br />increase the funds to do stream work. <br />LAND -USE: No report <br />NEW BUSINESS: <br />a. A motion was made, seconded and unanimously passed that the Cabarrus <br />SWCD purchase name badges for the supervisors and office staff to <br />wear to promote more visibility of the Soil and Water Districts to <br />the public. <br />b. A motion was made, seconded and unanimously passed by the District <br />supervisors requesting that Hugh Price check on cost for video equipment <br />for the District to purchase. <br />OLD BUSINESS: <br />Supervisors signed expense vouchers for AREA VIII meeting and <br />also for this meeting, <br />NEXT MEETING: <br />Tuesday, April 10, 1990 Agriculture Center 7:30 P.M. <br />A. rank Herrin, Chairman Sue Casper, Secy- Treasur <br />
