EDUCATION (continued) <br />After discussion, Chairman Herrin requested that Hugh <br />Price, Dennis Testerman and Frankie Singleton begin <br />making plans in January to have a speech contest for <br />the eighth grade students in the schools. The contest <br />needs to be be held before March 1, 1991. <br />WATERSHED: No report <br />LAND -USE: Sue Casper reported that Hugh Price and Frankie Singleton <br />observed the property where the Senior Citizens Center <br />is being built. Sue was delighted with the plan they <br />suggested to use on a part of the Center's site to make <br />the site more attractive and useful. <br />Sue Casper reported that she had received many complaints <br />of the development proposed off Burrage Road. <br />6. OLD BUSINESS: <br />Those supervisors who will still be on the District board for <br />another term expressed their delight in working with Mr. Barrier <br />and Mr. Kuykendall. This was their last official meeting and it <br />was expressed they will be missed on the board and were asked to <br />visit with us at any time <br />7. NEW BUSINESS: <br />Chairman Herrin talked with the Manager of the Wal -Mart store <br />explaining to him the role of the Soil and Water District in <br />Cabarrus county. The Manager, Rick Binson, was given a copy <br />of the Districts Long Range Plan. <br />Chairman Herrin reported that Mr. Binson was very receptive <br />in sponsoring a dinner meeting and awards presentations for <br />the Cabarrus Soil and Water District in December. <br />The supervisors and those receiving awards will be contacted <br />when the plans for the date, time and place are finalized. <br />The supervisors unanimously agreed that a Tuesday or Wednesday <br />night would be the best time to have the December program. <br />A.
