EDUCATION: Beginning this fiscal year, the Cabarrus Soil and [plater District voted to add the Poster and Essay contests to our educational programs. Dennis Testerman contacted teachers on the 6th grade level with explanations and rules set by the N. C. Association. The deadline date for entries was February 11, 1992. Due to this being an addition to our educational activities, the following Poster and Essay was submitted: One Poster -Megan Racks (teacher Miss Middleton) of Shady Brook school. One Essay - Rebekah Isenberg (teacher Nancy Isenberg) from North Green Academy Home School. A motion was made. and unanimously voted on by the supervisors to set the prize money for Poster and Essay as follows: lst place-$30.00-2nd' place- $20.00 and 3rd place - $10.00. We anticipate these activities increasing as word and information reaches other 6th grade students in the county schools. LAND -USE: Sue Casper plans to attend the Environmental Review Commission in Raleiah concerning the House Bill on private and :mmicipal landfulls. She requested that each supervisor write the membership commission expressing their opinions on the subject. WATERSHED: The Cabarrus County Watershed Commission will be nreparina their nronosed budget for the 1992 -93 fiscal year. NEW BUSINESS: a. A suggestion was made that one morning or afternoon the last week of February, the supervisors meet at the office to plan the 1992 -93 budget for the District. b. Supervisor Sue B. Casper filed for position as Cabarrus County Commissioner on February 10, 1992. c. Governor James G. Martin, Jr. and staff was in Cabarrus County on February 10, 1992 to recognize " Cabarrus County as the Capitol City of the Day ". Most department heads had breakfast with the Governor while he -was in Concord for the day., d. Mr. William W. Cobey, Jr., Secretary of the N. C. Environmental, Health and Natural Resources was in Cabarrus County on February 10, 1992 to observe conservation at work in the county. Dennis and Frankie made arrangements for Mr. Cobey to observe the recent stream crossing completed on the Harry Morris farm. Supervisors Myra Morrison, Sue B. Casper and office personnel Dennis Testerman and Frankie Singleton enjoyed the time spent while Mr. Cobey was visiting. OLD BUSINESS: A motion was made and unanimously passed that TERRY BEST ATTEND THE COUNTY MANAGERS MONTHLY MEETINGS AND IF HE WAS NOT A TO DO SO, ONE OF THE OFFICE PERSONNEL WOULD AT'T'END THE MEETINGS To 7 -IORT COUNTY INFORMATION TO THE SUPERVISORS THE MOTION INCLUDED THAT A SUPERVISOR WOULD ATTEND IF NECESSARY Supervisors signed expense vouchers for this meeting.
