EDUCATION: <br />Beginning this fiscal year, the Cabarrus Soil and [plater District voted to add the <br />Poster and Essay contests to our educational programs. <br />Dennis Testerman contacted teachers on the 6th grade level with explanations and <br />rules set by the N. C. Association. The deadline date for entries was February 11, <br />1992. Due to this being an addition to our educational activities, the following <br />Poster and Essay was submitted: <br />One Poster -Megan Racks (teacher Miss Middleton) of Shady Brook school. <br />One Essay - Rebekah Isenberg (teacher Nancy Isenberg) from North Green Academy Home <br />School. <br />A motion was made. and unanimously voted on by the supervisors to set the prize money <br />for Poster and Essay as follows: lst place-$30.00-2nd' place- $20.00 and 3rd place - <br />$10.00. <br />We anticipate these activities increasing as word and information reaches other 6th <br />grade students in the county schools. <br />LAND -USE: Sue Casper plans to attend the Environmental Review Commission in Raleiah <br />concerning the House Bill on private and :mmicipal landfulls. She requested <br />that each supervisor write the membership commission expressing their opinions <br />on the subject. <br />WATERSHED: The Cabarrus County Watershed Commission will be nreparina their nronosed <br />budget for the 1992 -93 fiscal year. <br />NEW BUSINESS: <br />a. A suggestion was made that one morning or afternoon the last week of February, <br />the supervisors meet at the office to plan the 1992 -93 budget for the District. <br />b. Supervisor Sue B. Casper filed for position as Cabarrus County Commissioner on <br />February 10, 1992. <br />c. Governor James G. Martin, Jr. and staff was in Cabarrus County on February 10, 1992 <br />to recognize " Cabarrus County as the Capitol City of the Day ". Most department heads <br />had breakfast with the Governor while he -was in Concord for the day., <br />d. Mr. William W. Cobey, Jr., Secretary of the N. C. Environmental, Health and Natural <br />Resources was in Cabarrus County on February 10, 1992 to observe conservation at <br />work in the county. <br />Dennis and Frankie made arrangements for Mr. Cobey to observe the recent stream <br />crossing completed on the Harry Morris farm. Supervisors Myra Morrison, Sue B. <br />Casper and office personnel Dennis Testerman and Frankie Singleton enjoyed the time <br />spent while Mr. Cobey was visiting. <br />OLD BUSINESS: A motion was made and unanimously passed that TERRY BEST ATTEND THE COUNTY <br />MANAGERS MONTHLY MEETINGS AND IF HE WAS NOT A TO DO SO, ONE OF THE <br />OFFICE PERSONNEL WOULD AT'T'END THE MEETINGS To 7 -IORT COUNTY INFORMATION TO <br />THE SUPERVISORS THE MOTION INCLUDED THAT A SUPERVISOR WOULD ATTEND IF <br />NECESSARY <br />Supervisors signed expense vouchers for this meeting. <br />Copies of the DISTRICT CONNECTIO were distributed to the supervisors. <br />CHAIRMAN: NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, March 10, 1992 -7:30 P Agriculture Center. <br />SECY -TRES . <br />F . <br />
