MINUTES <br />3.5.2 FSA Plans to be cancelled: <br />Fred A. Motley <br />-2- <br />Carrie Holshouser 224 <br />MAY 9, 1995 <br />4. INFORMATION /EDUCATION - Dennis Testerman <br />4.1 Resource Conservation Workshop — Six applications have been received. After hearing <br />information about each of the applicants, the following motion was made: <br />MOTION: THAT CHARITY L. DAVIS, JASON C. REEDER, AND BARRETT ELWOOD HAVE BEEN <br />SELECTED TO ATTEND THE RESOURCE CONSERVATION WORKSHOP. RANDY CLINE WAS <br />SELECTED AS THE ALTERNATE. <br />4.2 The state speech contest is set for Friday, May 12, at 1 PM in the Archdale Building in <br />Raleigh. Melissa Michaud will have her extended family and teacher Barbara Logan in <br />the audience to support her. Chairman Frank Herrin and Dennis Testerman also plan• <br />to attend. <br />4.3 The State Essay Contest is set for Thursday, May 11. Jennifer Raye is representing our <br />district and Area VIII. <br />4.4 Conservation Farm Family - The nomination for Vann McGlamery family has been <br />submitted to Area VIII Chairman. Judging team will visit will visit farm in late May or <br />early June. <br />4.5 Soil and Water Stewardship Week - Presentations to approximately 150 first grade <br />students have been completed at Coltrane -Webb Elementary School. Students watched <br />the "Just A Drop in the Ocean" videotape, featuring "Willie Waterdrop" on protecting <br />the watershed where you live by keeping stormwater runoff free of pollution. Coloring <br />books were also given out, and a six -pack ring recycling tree was provided. <br />Presentations were also made to a church children's class and to the extension <br />homemakers council meeting. 12,000+ bookmarks were distributed to churches by <br />extension homemakers, in addition to 50 sample packets and 3,000 litanies sent out by <br />the district. Educator packets were delivered to 32 schools. <br />4.6 National Wildlife Week packets' delivery was delayed. Wildlife and stewardship <br />packets were delivered together to elementary and middle schools. <br />4.7 A table was set up at Concord Middle School with information related to "The Living <br />Waters" 1995 stewardship theme for Earth Day. <br />4.8 Eddie Moose has estimated the cost of materials and labor to frame and install district <br />signs at $75 /sign. Estimate from Donnie Seagraves is pending. <br />4.9 Conservation plans for Cabarrus Academy, Concord Middle, Jackson Park, and Royal <br />Oaks are in process. Jackson Park received a $1,000 environmental grant in April to <br />purchase resource materials and to control erosion on school grounds. <br />4.10 Plans are being finalized for the 3 -day, 2 credit workshop for 7 -12 grade teachers. <br />4.11 Training for 2 earth science classes at Northwest Cabarrus High School is planned for <br />May 15 -19 to be led by staff from the Extension Service, Forest Service, Wildlife <br />Resources Commission, Division S &W and the district. Planning meeting is also <br />scheduled for Mount Pleasant High School. <br />4.12 A N. C. Environmental Education Plan was presented to Governor Hunt in April. The <br />plan was 18 months in the making, involving over 1,300 individuals. District staff had <br />input in the planning process at a 12/94 conference conducted by the Office on <br />Environmental Education. <br />5. NC AGRICULTURE COST SHARE PROGRAM -Richard Taylor <br />5.1 INFORMATION /CORRESPONDENCE <br />Third quarter progress and technical billing reports were mailed to the division on April <br />12, 1995. Letters were mailed to Harris Dairy and Tommy Cook with instructions <br />concerning noncompliance with contract terms according to vote taken by board at <br />April 11, 1995 meeting. <br />5.2 APPLICATIONS: None to present <br />
