MINUTES <br />-2- August 5, 1997 <br />3.5 The Cabarrus Food and Agriculture Committee (FAC) met on Monday, July 21, <br />1997 at the Cabarrus Mecklenburg FSA office. A copy USDA Service Center <br />News was given to each supervisor. Items of concern to the FAC: Civil <br />Rights /EEO with regard to the delivery of services and the distribution of <br />information and Cabarrus County Agriculture Service Center relocation. <br />3.7 County Emergency Board met to document any reported damage or losses to <br />agricultural lands due the July 23, 1997 storm as a result of the remnants of <br />hurricane Danny. A flash report was submitted. <br />3.8 The NRCS Watershed Sciences Institute study on watershed health is currently <br />underway. The crews will be working in the county for the next 4 weeks <br />collecting data for the first phase. The storm kept them from working during the <br />week of July 21 -25. <br />3.7 Compliance reviews for Food Security Act (FSA) plans will be conducted at the <br />end of this month. A total of 15 tracts will be reviewed this year for Conservation <br />Compliance. <br />3.8 Review and approval of the 1997 Conservation Tillage Report for Cabarrus <br />County is requested. INFORMATION /EDUCATION - Dennis Testerman <br />Frank presented a plaque to Janet Voth, the District's Conservation Teacher of the Year <br />for 1997. <br />NC AGRICULTURE COST SHARE PROGRAM - Richard Taylor <br />5.1 Frank Herrin and Richard attended the Commission meeting in Raleigh on July 23 <br />to request contract extension for Richard Earnhardt's contract 13- 95- 06 -16. <br />Contract extension was granted by the commission. <br />6. WATERSHED IMPROVEMENT COMMISSION - Dennis Testerman <br />6.1 None given. <br />7. NATURAL HERITAGE ADVISORY COMMISSION - John Foil <br />7.1 Things are moving along. Johnny reported that Don Seriff will no longer be <br />working on the survey. Two new people will take over in Don's position. He <br />reported on a wetland area surveyed with blue herons present. Johnny also that <br />the wildlife portion of the survey will be conducted in the near future. <br />8. OLD BUSINESS - None <br />
