It builds on existing cooperative relationships and <br />establishes a foundation for joint planning, joint <br />administration and joint financing of recreation facilities <br />that will serve both the schools and the community. <br />Of utmost importance in the school/park program is the <br />implementation of joint planning, joint administration, and <br />joint funding by schools, the Parks and Recreation Department, <br />and the community. <br />Ail school campuses, both new and existing, should be <br />evaluated for potential school/parks. Because school campuses <br />are distributed throughout the county, a school/park network <br />would provide a network of recreation facilities in every <br />community. <br />Existing campuses should be evaluated for the suitability of <br />designing improvements to create school/parks where possible. <br />New school sites should be evaluated for the suitability of a <br />school/park and designed, where possible, so that the property <br />can serve as a school/park, whether the park is developed at <br />once or in the future. Where appropriate, this should involve <br />joint design and planning between the school systems and Park <br />and Recreation professionals. The architectural program <br />should specifically state that the campus be designed for <br />total community use. <br />A study of community preferences should be an integral part of <br />the planning of each school/park. Each study should survey <br />citizens in the community surrounding the school campus to <br />determine the types of recreation activities preferred and the <br />facilities needed to support these activities. <br /> <br /> <br />
