Bonds, Clerk to the Board <br /> <br /> Mr. Troutman expressed appreciation for the recognition and <br />acknowledged his family members who were in attendance. He stated the <br />successfulness of Troutman Enterprises would not have been possible without <br />the support of his family and the patronage of citizens of Cabarrus County. <br /> <br />(C-2) Recognition of the Jackson Park Volunteer Fire Department on its SOta <br />Anniversar~ <br /> <br /> Mike Downs, Deputy County Manager, recognized Chief John Hilferty of <br />the Jackson Park Volunteer Fire Department in celebration of the fire <br />department's 50tn anniversary. He presented the following proclamation to <br />Chief Hilferty: <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in the early 1950's, the residents of the Jackson Park Area in <br />Cabarrus County realized the need for and began discussing organization of a <br />local volunteer fire department; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in 1954 these residents held a public meeting to organize the <br />Jackson Park Volunteer Fire Department; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Jackson Park Fire Volunteer Fire Department was formed and <br />has been providing Fire Fighting, Fire Education, Fire Prevention and <br />Emergency Medical Services to the Jackson Park Area Citizens; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, through participation in the Cabarrus County Fireman's <br />Association and through mutual aid assistance, the Jackson Park Fire <br />Department has been a vital part of Emergency Services for Cabarrus County; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Jackson Park Fire Department is celebrating its 50tn <br />anniversary on July 26, 2004. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners hereby <br />commends the Jackson Park Fire Department on the celebration of its 50tn <br />anniversary and extends its sincerest gratitude to the members and Board of <br />Directors of Jackson Park Fire Department for their professional and <br />dedicated service protecting the citizens of Cabarrus County. <br /> <br /> This the 26tn day of July, 2004. <br /> /s/ Robert M. He thanked the department's founding members <br />for their hard work and acknowledged the fundraising efforts of countless <br />volunteers. <br /> <br />(C-3) Recognition of the Cabarrus County Department of Transportation on <br />Receipt of the 2004 National Association of Counties Achievement Award <br /> <br /> Mike Downs, Deputy County Manager, recognized the County Transportation <br />Department on receiving the National Association of Counties 2004 Achievement <br />Award for its program "Metrolina Out of County Medical Transportations <br />Service MOU". Cabarrus County partners with the counties of Mecklenburg, <br />Iredell and Gaston to provide transportation to persons for medical <br />appointments outside the county. Mr. Downs presented the award to James <br />Sasser, Transportation Director. <br /> <br /> Mr. Sasser expressed appreciation for the Board's support and <br />recognized the following staff members for their commitment to the <br />transportation program: Jeffrey Barbee, Transportation Operation Manager; <br />Bryan Patterson, Transportation Supervisor; and Drivers Elmer Foster and <br />Vincent Johnson. Mr. Sasser reported the average cost of a trip was $135.00 <br />in 2002 and, through the coordinated efforts of the four counties, the <br />average cost of a trip has been reduced to $75.00. <br /> <br /> <br />
