September 20, 2004 Page 620 <br /> <br /> The Board of Commissioners for the County of Cabarrus met in regular <br />session in the Commissioners' Meeting Room at the Cabarrus County <br />Governmental Center in Concord, North Carolina on Monday, September 20, 2004, <br />at 6:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Present - Chairman: Robert M. Freeman <br /> Vice Chairman: Richard D. Suggs <br /> Commissioners.: Carolyn B. Carpenter <br /> Robert W. Carruth <br /> Coy C. Privette <br /> <br /> Also present were John D. Day, County Manager; Marilyn D. Porter, <br />County Attorney; Frankie F. Bonds, Clerk to the Board; and Kay Honeycutt, <br />Deputy Clerk to the Board. <br /> <br />Chairman Freeman called the meeting to order at 6:34 p.m. <br /> <br /> Girl Scout Cadet Troop <br />conducted the Flag Ceremony. <br />Lauren Hill, Brennan Sherman, <br />Austin and Caitlin Foster. <br /> <br />563 of the Harrisburg Presbyterian Church <br />Scouts participating in the ceremony were: <br /> Morgan Carpenter, Elizabeth Smith, Hannah <br /> <br /> Reverend Mary S. Lautensleger of Center United Methodist Church gave <br />the invocation. <br /> <br />(A) APPROVAL OR CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br /> <br />No minutes were available for approval. <br /> <br />(B) APPROVAL' OF THE AGENDA <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carruth, seconded by Commissioner Privette <br />and unanimously carried, the Board approved the Agenda with the following <br />changes: Change Consent Item F-4 as follows: Delete purchase of Roberta <br />Methodist (parsonage) property from the land acquisition requested for <br />roadwork at the intersection of Pitts and Roberta. The church has not agreed <br />to the sale. (Total of remaining purchases - $30,313.00); Remove Item G-2 - <br />Zoning Text Amendment - Planned Unit Development District (Public Hearing to <br />be held at a later date); Add the following item to Appointments: H-3 - <br />Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (Persons Under Age 18) Commissioner <br />Carpenter; and Add the following item to Old Business: E-2 - Long Range <br />School Financing Plan - Commissioner Carruth. <br /> <br />(C) RECOGNITIONS'AND PRESENTATIONS <br /> <br />(C-1) Recognition of Hilbish Motor Company on its 50th Anniversar~ <br /> <br /> The Board recognized Buddy Hilbish on the celebration of the 50tn <br />anniversary of Hilbish Motor Company. Commissioners Carruth and Privette <br />presented the following proclamation to Mr. Hilbish: <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, locally owned businesses are important to the economic <br />vitality of Cabarrus County; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Hilbish Motor Company in Kannapolis operates a car sales <br />business on South Cannon Boulevard in Kannapolis; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Founder Buddy Hilbish has grown his car dealership over the <br />years to serve customers in Cabarrus and surrounding counties; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Hilbish Motor Company is celebrating 50 years in business this <br />year in Cabarrus County. <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners hereby congratulates Hilbish Motor Company on the celebration <br />of its 50tn anniversary, honors Buddy Hilbish for his many accomplishments and <br />contributions to Cabarrus County and extends best wishes for the continued <br />success of Hilbish Motor Company. <br /> <br />Adopted this 20th day of September, 2004. <br />/s/ Robert M.
