Robinson High School; <br />Kettyl Amoakon, Early College High School; Casey Aldridge, Concord High <br />School; Cooper McAuley, Central Cabarrus High School; Harrison Allen, Mt. <br />Pleasant High School; Ryan Himes, Central Cabarrus High School; Harrison <br />Reiff, Concord High School; Steven Larson, Cox Mill High School; and Erik <br />Taylor, Covenant Classical School. <br />Chairman Poole recognized Shannon Johnson, Youth Facilitator, for her <br />contributions to the Youth Council. <br />(C -2) Planning and Development - Soil and Water Conservation District - <br />recognition of Annual Conservation Contest Winners <br />Dennis Testerman, Senior Resource Conservation Specialist, recognized <br />winners of the 22 °d annual conservation contest. He stated there were almost <br />500 participants and the winners will advance to the regional level of the <br />statewide competition sponsored by the North Carolina Association of Soil and <br />Water Conservation Districts. He recognized parents and teachers in <br />attendance, thanked everyone for their support and responded to questions <br />from the Board. <br />The Cabarrus Soil and Water Conservation District 2013 Contest Winners are: <br />22nd Annual Poster Contest <br />Third Grade <br />1st place: Elijah C_ISCo, Jackson Park_ Elementary, Teacher - Gecrgann Sapp <br />Fourth Grade <br />1st p- Lar_ey Graag, Jackson Pa -- E- ementary, Teacher - Georgann Sapp <br />Fifth Grade <br />lst p- Pbiga_1 3rewer, Patriots Elementary, - - eacher - Leigh Davis <br />Sixth Grade <br />lst p- Caroline Beers, Harris Road M meddle, Teacher - Tonda Christian <br />23rd Annual Essay Contest (Grade 6) <br />Ist place: Ros_l.nd ,iefenbach, J� Fri_es Macnet, Teacher - Sandra Cl -ff <br />2nd Annual Computer Desiqned Slide Show Contest (Grade 6) <br />1st glace: Madeline Barfield, Harris Road M_ddle, Teacher - Jodie Hott, <br />teacher) <br />45th Annual Public Speaking Contest (Grades 7 and 8) <br />Seventh Grade <br />1st place: Hannah Monroe, Concord M` ddle, Teacher - Bernice Franklin <br />Eighth Grade <br />1st place: Olivia Reiff, Concord Middle, Teacher - Bernice Franklin <br />Vice Chairman White requested the winning posters and essays be posted <br />on the county website. <br />(C -3) Human Resources - Recognition of John "David" Hampton., Jr. on His <br />Retirement from Cabarrus County Emergency Medical Services <br />Mike Downs, County Manager, recognized David Hampton for his service to <br />the citizens of Cabarrus County. He highlighted a number of Mr. Hampton's <br />accomplishments and expressed appreciation for his many years of dedicated <br />service. Mr. Hampton will retire from his position as the Emergency Medical <br />Services Director on March 1, 2013. <br />Vice Chairman White presented a service award to Mr. Hampton and <br />expressed appreciation for his service. <br />Mr. Hampton graciously accepted the award and expressed appreciation. <br />(C -4) Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce - Recognition of County Manager <br />Mike Downs on Receiving Executive Level Leadership Award <br />John Cox, Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce, stated this year an <br />award was created to recognize the business community's feelings and <br />appreciation of the service exhibited by the county manager and city managers <br />of Concord and Kannapolis. He advised this honor was first recognized at the <br />Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce Annual meeting on January 18, 2013. <br />
