The roadway improvements consisted of widening <br /> Placid Road from the beginning of the Castlebrooke Subdivision to <br /> its intersection with Shiloh Church Road. A re-alignment was also required <br /> at the intersection. This re-alignment required a 90-degree approach which <br /> shifted the overall right-of-way (ROW) . The old ROW needs to be abandoned. <br /> The Board of Commissioners will need to consider adopting a resolution to <br /> start the abandonment process for a portion of Placid Road. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Kiger, seconded by Commissioner Shue and <br /> unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following resolution supporting the <br /> abandonment of maintenance and ROW for a portion of Placid Road, also known as <br /> SR 1818_ <br /> Resolution No. 2017-02 <br /> RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SUPPORT <br /> OF <br /> THE CABARRUS COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> FOR <br /> NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION <br /> TO REVIEW ABANDONMENT AND CLOSURE <br /> OF <br /> A PORTION OF STATE ROAD NUMBER 1818 <br /> ALSO KNOWN AS PLACID ROAD <br /> WHEREAS, North Carolina State Road 1818 in Cabarrus County is known as <br /> Placid Road, being a paved road approximately .71 mile (s) in length, a portion <br /> of Placid Road, bound on both sides by property owned by Jesse McKnight (c/o <br /> Myrtle McKnight) & Frank Fleming Jr, needs to be abandoned by the North Carolina <br /> Department of Transportation (NCDOT) ; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Cabarrus is <br /> requesting that the above described road, the location of which has been <br /> indicated on the attached map, be abandoned from the Secondary Road System; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners is of the opinion that the above <br /> described road should be abandoned from the Secondary Road System, if the road <br /> meets minimum standards and criteria established by the Division of Highways of <br /> the Department of Transportation and Highway Safety for the abandonment of roads <br /> from the System. <br /> NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of County Commissioners of the <br /> County of Cabarrus that the Division of Highways is hereby requested to review <br /> the above described road and to cease maintenance of same read if it meets <br /> established standards and criteria. <br /> Adopted this 17th day of January, 2017. <br /> /s/ Stephen M.
