The Star of Life Award is presented to a part-time team member who <br /> demonstrates great commitment to the service in the areas of system involvement, <br /> work hours and professionalism. The EMS Service Award is presented to a top <br /> performing full-time team member whose efforts have served to advance the level <br /> of care, system reputation and community awareness. Mr. Thompson recognized <br /> Chris Goenner, recipient of the 2016 Star of Life Award and Katherine Currin, <br /> recipient of the 2016 EMS Service Award. He further acknowledged the superior <br /> efforts delivered by all Cabarrus County EMS medics every day to the citizens <br /> of Cabarrus County. <br /> (C-4) Proclamation - National Donate Life Month April 2017 <br /> Brandy Dooley, Life Share of the Carolinas, recognized organ donor <br /> recipients in the audience. She also thanked the Board for recognizing National <br /> Donate Life Month in Cabarrus County and urged the public to consider becoming <br /> an organ donor. <br /> Chairman Morris read the proclamation aloud. <br /> Commissioner Shue MOVED to adopt the proclamation. <br /> Commissioner Shue endorsed the proclamation stating he is a heart and <br /> kidney transplant recipient. <br /> Vice Chairman Honeycutt seconded the motion and the MOTION unanimously <br /> carried. <br /> Proclamation No. 2017-02 <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> NATIONAL DONATE LIFE MONTH 2017 <br /> Whereas, more than 118, 000 men, women and children in the United States <br /> currently need life-saving organ transplants and nearly 2, 890 of those people <br /> are North Carolinians; and <br /> Whereas, an average of 18 people awaiting transplants die each day because there <br /> is a severe shortage of donated organs; and <br /> Whereas, every eight minutes, another name is added to the national transplant <br /> waiting list; and <br /> Whereas, providing facts about donation and dispelling misinformation and myths <br /> are key to increasing the number of people who sign up as donors; and <br /> Whereas, the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (NC DMV) plays a critical <br /> role with nearly five million North Carolinians in the state' s donor registry <br /> having registered when receiving a driver' s license or state ID card; and <br /> Whereas, one organ donor can save the lives of up to eight people and improve <br /> many more lives through tissue and cornea donation; and <br /> Whereas, North Carolinians are encouraged to get the facts about donation, <br /> discuss their wishes with their family and sign up as donors via the NC DMV or <br /> online at www.donatelifenc.org/register; and <br /> WHEREAS, Residents of Cabarrus County have been touched by donation as <br /> recipients of life-saving transplants and as members of donor families who have <br /> literally given others a second chance at life; and <br /> NOW, BE IT RESOLVED, we, the members of the Cabarrus Board of County <br /> Commissioners do hereby proclaim the month of April, 2017 to be <br />
