All,
Please see below a message from Jeff Littlefield, Resident Engineer on the Cabamis portion of the widening
projects. A proposal to accelerate the project schedule has been forwarded, but this proposal requires
simultaneous closure of both the Centergrove Road and Brantley Road bridges, with detours using Dale
Earnhardt Blvd and/or Lane Street. We would like to forward this information to the group for feedback and
wanted to get it out before our meeting because this is on a fast track and closure may happen on March 31- if
consensus is reached. We will take any and all feedback you can provide and update the group at our 3/29
meeting in Kannapolis. Jeff will be present at the meeting as well, but if you could respond to him directly
beforehand it would help him tremendously in working toward a solution.
Thank you and please see below.
Tony
---------------------------
My name is Jeff Littlefield, and I am the Resident Engineer for the 1-85 widening project in Cabarrus County
from between north of exit 63 (Lane Street) and north of exit 55 (NC 73). The North Carolina Department of
Transportation is in the process of mitigating the construction schedule to complete the mainline widening(I-
85) by December of 2018. In order to achieve this completion date, the contractor has proposed the
simultaneous closure of Lake Concord Rd, Center Grove Rd, Brantley Rd, and Moose Rd bridges. Below are
the expected dates of closure:
• Center Grove Rd Bridge—March 31, 2017— Dale Earnhardt Blvd or Lane Street detour—estimated reopen
3/31/18
• Brantley Rd Bridge — June 1, 2017 — Lane St detour—estimated reopen 6/1/18
• Moose Rd Bridge- July 1, 2017 - Lane St detour—Reopen 4/30/18
• Concord Lake Rd—July 1, 2017— Dale Earnhardt Blvd detour—Reopen 4/30/18
In an attempt to assess any hardship posed by these closures, the Department would like your input. If you
would, please express any concerns or difficulties that this proposal may pose for your agency. In addition, if
you have additional ideas that will allow these closures while mitigating your agency's concerns, feel free to
provide this information. If you would like to discuss this proposal or would like further information, you may
contact me at 704-652-8272. Thank you for your assistance.
Jeff Littlefield, PE
Resident Engineer
Division 10 / District 1 - Construction Office
704 983 4380 office
704 652 8272 mobile
jslittlefield1 cr.ncdot.gov
615 Concord Road
Albemarle.
