Check all that apply & provide a detailed explanation of your response in the field provided.
If there are concerns please specify. Be as specific as possible. (e.g. location in a high call volume
area, closure could affect response to schools, weight restrictions, expected new development in the
area, coordination with partner agency required to facilitate service)
YVe are not opposed to the actual project but are opposed to the timing of the project.
Our concern from an EMSpe►spective is related to response delays potentially impacting outcomes
of trauma and medical events. The Brantley Rd bridge is currently out ticith I-85 construction (and
associated delays) to begin in the near future. Ambulances serving this area would generally use
Center Grove Rd as a response route. Brantlev Rd mould be an alternative if open. If this closure
® occurs simultaneously with the current Brantley Rd closure, our units coming from Kannapolis will
be required to travel the length of Lane St to Old Salisbury and our units coming from Concord will
be required to travel Branchview to Old Salisbiuy—both are significant response delays. Frequerl I,
the traits coming ftom the Concord area station near exit 58 answer the calls in this area. Time is
critical when dealing with patients experiencing traurma or medical emergencies. 6Ve strive to
maintain response time averages less than 8 minutes. Anvthing impacting this time has detrimental
effects on patients. Brain death occurs after six minutes in patients titi•ith respiratory compromise.
Based on your knowledge of the project area, do you have any concerns with the condition/capacity
of potential detour routes, or the location of resources along these routes?
® Detour routes do not provide an acceptable alternative to the primary route if both Center Grove and
Brantley Roads are closed simultaneously. Response times will be increased significantly and may
potentially result in loss of life or Harm.
Are there any future time periods or events that you know of where bridge closure would be of
particular concern?
® Concerns would be present daily if both Center Grove and Brantley are closed simultaneously. The
areas impacted by the closures are high call volumes or travel corridors to reach remote areas of the
county.
Is there anyone else you feel should be contacted regarding this project (i.e. local officials or
® stakeholders)?
Law enforcement, emergency management, and fire department.
Are road names referenced by the names locals would use?
yes
If there any other concerns you have regarding the potential impact of this project on EMS services,
or any additional comments? Please be as specific as possible.
® We are not opposed the project; however, the closures must be scheduled progressively rather than
simultaneously. Center Grove and Brantley being closed simultaneously presents a dangerous impact
for the emergency medical services delivery of care.
Form Completed by (Include Title): Alan Thompson, EMS Director
Date:
G-8 Page 271
