CABARRUS COUNTY <br /> BOARDS, COMMITTEES, COMMISSIONS AND AUTHORITIES <br /> The Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners makes appointments to a number <br /> of boards, committees, commissions and authorities. All citizens of Cabarrus <br /> County are encouraged to volunteer to serve on these boards/committees. To <br /> obtain an application for appointment or for more information, please contact <br /> Megan Smit, Clerk to the Board, at the Governmental Center, 65 Church Street, <br /> SE, Concord, or call (704) 920-2109. The application may also be downloaded <br /> from the County's website at www.cabarruscounty.us. <br /> A listing of the boards/committees is as follows: <br /> ADULT CARE HOME COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br /> This committee seeks to maintain the intent of the Adult Care Home <br /> Residents Bill of Rights and to promote community involvement with the <br /> homes (homes for the aged, family care homes and homes for <br /> developmentally disabled adults). Members cannot be employed by an <br /> adult care home nor have any financial interest, directly or indirectly, in an <br /> adult care home. Immediate family of an adult care home resident in <br /> Cabarrus County cannot serve on the committee. Initial appointment is for <br /> a term of one year with successive appointments of three-year terms. <br /> CABARRUS COUNTY PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION <br /> This commission serves a key role in shaping the future development of the <br /> county as it reviews subdivisions, assists in area plans, and makes land use <br /> decisions, some of which are forwarded to the Board of Commissioners. <br /> The commission also serves as the Board of Adjustment that hears and <br /> decides appeals of decisions by the Zoning Enforcement Officer, and grants <br /> special use permits/variances. Members include a representative from each <br /> of the 7 planning areas (Concord, Midland, Central, Eastern, Harrisburg, <br /> Kannapolis and Northwest Cabarrus), 2 at-large representatives and 3 <br /> Alternate members. Appointments are for terms of three years. <br /> CONCORD PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION <br /> The Commission guides, reviews and regulates land developments within <br /> and around the boundaries of the City of Concord. The County <br /> Commissioners appoint one member who resides in Concord's <br /> extraterritorial jurisdiction area for a term of three years. <br /> HOME AND COMMUNITY CARE BLOCK GRANT ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br /> This advisory committee assists the Department of Aging with the <br /> development of the County Aging Funding Plan through the Home and <br /> Community Care Block Grant for Older Adults.
