Fun for all! <br /> Water Wa7of <br /> To celebrate thand Recr eation Month, <br /> July,staff developed an activity that cooled the summer <br /> heat,Water Wars.It was much more popular than staff <br /> expected,with more than 100 people participating in <br /> family-friendly water competitions.Activities included <br /> Tug-of-War,squirt gun cup relay,"dunking"booth,car <br /> t sponge toss and many more. <br /> No A International Dance Festival <br /> REACH funds also supported an International Dance <br /> AIR Festival featuring instruction in dance styles from sev- <br /> eral Latino countries and various dance styles from the <br /> United States.The goal of the festival is to bring both <br /> English-and Spanish-speaking adults together through <br /> the power of dance,food and physical activity.The <br /> design of the first two International Dance Festivals <br /> included 6-8 dance instructors,a DJ/emcee leading <br /> REACH Out to Other Cultures partygoers in 20-minute Dance demonstrations and <br /> instruction.The party represented dances from many <br /> Cabarrus County Active Living and Parks partnered different cultures,including Spanish(salsa,merengue <br /> with the Cabanas Health Alliance(CHA)to provide and bachata),Columbian(cumbia and Zumba),Poly- <br /> outreach to the Latino community and promote under- nesian(hula),and American(line dance,freestyle). <br /> standing among cultures through the CHA's REACH The event also featured health-related informational <br /> grant.In addition to promoting facilities available for handouts and healthy foods. <br /> use,including parks and senior centers,the project <br /> provided translation of written materials,classes <br /> (Zumba and Small Group Personal Training)with _ <br /> bilingual instructors and a walking group. _ a_ <br /> Cabarrus' Parents Night Out <br /> Was an Out-of-this-World Success <br /> I <br /> On December 16,2017,the Cabarrus County Active y <br /> Living and Parks Department offered its first Parents <br /> Night Out.From 5-9 p.m.,parents could drop off their <br /> kids at Frank Liske Park for an evening of fun and excit- <br /> ing programs.Kids participated in staff-led activities, <br /> including a nature hike,a program on owl pellets,star <br /> maps,S'mores,cookie decorating and cosmic dodge- <br /> ball.Staff learned about cosmic dodgeball at the state <br /> conference.It was so successful that staff will include <br /> the activity at many future programs.Registration fees ', <br /> from Parents Night Out went to support Cabarrus' <br /> Partners for Parks fund,which assists with conservation <br /> projects,program materials,park amenity additions and <br /> many other limited-funding opportunities. <br /> Attachment number 1 <br />
