CABARRUS COUNTY <br /> 1792 <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ir REGULAR MEETING <br /> OCTOBER 16, 2017 <br /> 6:30 P.M. <br /> AGENDA CATEGORY: <br /> Recognitions and Presentations <br /> SUBJECT: <br /> Active Living and Parks - Recognition of Older Americans Month <br /> Celebration Award <br /> BRIEF SUMMARY: <br /> Cabarrus County Active Living & Parks Department was selected for the <br /> $500 first place prize by the Centralina Area Agency on Aging for the <br /> month-long celebration of Older Americans Month with the theme, "Age <br /> Out Loud." <br /> The Cabarrus County Senior Centers, an integral part of the Active Living <br /> and Parks Department hosted a series of events and programs during <br /> May 2017 to celebrate Older Americans Month. Senior Center and Park <br /> staff worked together to plan and implement programs to engage those <br /> seniors willing to embrace the theme, "Age Out Loud." <br /> Approximately 125 seniors participated and/or volunteered in the events <br /> including: Paddleboat races, Age Out Loud picture frame craft, Chair <br /> Volleyball contest, Homemade Ice Cream churn off, Scavenger Hunt <br /> throughout the county (in vehicles), Water Wars, Human Foosball, Step-A- <br /> Thon and Human Pool. <br /> REQUESTED ACTION: <br /> Recognize Older Americans Month Celebration Award. <br /> EXPECTED LENGTH OF PRESENTATION: <br /> 3 Minutes <br /> C-2 Page 24 <br />
