Londa Strong, Active Living and Parks Director recognized the Cabarrus <br /> County Senior Games participants who competed in the National Senior Games held <br /> in Birmingham, Alabama in June 2017. <br /> Myra Baumgardner, Senior Games participant shared comments about the week <br /> and the overall experience. <br /> Toni Swick, Senior Games participant expressed appreciation for support <br /> given to the program. <br /> Anita Helms, Active Living and Parks Advisory Board Chairperson and Senior <br /> Games Ambassador, along with Susan Donaldson, recognized and presented <br /> certificates to the following participants: Mark Allen, Tennis-Mixed Doubles; <br /> Myra Baumgardner, Tennis-Doubles; Elizabeth Buggs Bennett, Tennis-Doubles; <br /> Janet Buck, Bowling-Singles and Doubles; H.L. Clay III, Golf; Chuck DiLullo, <br /> Golf; Ronald Flanders, Track and Field; Renee Goolsby, Tennis-Mixed Doubles; <br /> Walt Jakubek, Cycling; Florence Kendall, Horseshoes; Toni Swick, Field Events; <br /> and Jennifer Skinner, Bowling-Singles and Doubles. Kathy Dorr, Tennis-Singles <br /> and Marvin Martin, Archery, not in attendance were also recognized. <br /> (C-2) Human Resources - Recognition of Sergeant Eric Sossoman on his Retirement <br /> from Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office <br /> Sheriff Brad Riley, Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office recognized Sergeant <br /> Eric Sossoman on his retirement from his position with the Cabarrus County <br /> Sheriff's Office. He highlighted a number of Sergeant Sossoman's accomplishments <br /> during his 28-year tenure with the County. <br /> Vice Chairman Honeycutt presented Sergeant Sossoman with a service award <br /> in appreciation for his service and dedication to the citizens of Cabarrus <br /> County. <br /> Sergeant Sossoman accepted the award and expressed appreciation. <br /> (C-3) Planning and Development - Construction Standards Recognition of Tim <br /> Gray <br /> Kelly Sifford, Planning and Development Director recognized Tim Gray for <br /> his outstanding achievement in acquiring a Level 3 Inspector Certification in <br /> all five trades. She announced this is a rare achievement in North Carolina, <br /> stating there are approximately 250 inspectors across the state to reach this <br /> level of achievement. <br /> Mr. Gray graciously accepted the certificate. <br /> Commissioner Kiger commended Mr. Gray for his service to Cabarrus County. <br /> (C-4) BOC - Proclamation Honoring the Memory and Achievements of Frances Ward <br /> Black Holland <br /> Chairman Morris read the proclamation aloud. <br /> UPON MOTION by Commissioner Poole, seconded by Vice Chairman Honeycutt <br /> and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following proclamation. <br /> Proclamation No. 2017-09 <br /> A PROCLAMATION AND TRIBUTE IN HONOR OF FRANCES WARD BLACK HOLLAND <br /> WHEREAS, Frances Ward Black Holland was born on January 20, 1927 and grew <br /> up in Mt. Olive, North Carolina until she left to attend Meredith College in <br /> Raleigh; and <br /> WHEREAS, in 1951 Frances began teaching in Cabarrus County near the start <br /> of what would become a 30-year teaching career; and <br /> WHEREAS, she taught at J.W. Cannon School, A.L. Brown High School and <br /> Concord High School before retiring in 1983; and <br /> WHEREAS, Frances also taught Sunday School for over 30 years, initially <br /> at the First Presbyterian Church and later the Trinity United Methodist Church <br /> in Kannapolis; and <br /> WHEREAS, Frances devoted her life to the service of our community through <br /> leadership and engagement in many civic organizations including the Concord <br /> A-1 Page 7 <br />
