AGENDA CATEGORY: Consent Agenda SUBJECT: Sheriff's Office - North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program Local Governmental Resolution BRIEF SUMMARY: Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office is receiving a grant through the Governor's Highway Safety Program. Lieutenant Aaron Rankin serves as the coordinator and organizer for BikeSafeNC in our region of North Carolina. A grant in the amount of $10,000 will cover the cost of education event materials, equipment and travel. No local match is required. The Governor's Highway Safety Program (GHSP) supports and oversees the statewide BikeSafeNC. A BikeSafeNC Regional Law Enforcement Liaison serves as coordinator and organizer for BikeSafeNC activities in his/her respective region. The Governor's Highway Safety Program supports and oversees the statewide BikeSafeNC program. Coordination of this program is accomplished by utilizing six regional BikeSafeNC Regional Law Enforcement Liaison (RLEL) positions. Planning, preparation and reporting activities for BikeSafe training and events occurs through the guidance and coordination efforts of the liaisons. BikeSafeNC RLELs are responsible for continued efforts to promote and involve law enforcement agencies in these lifesaving endeavors. To this end, Law Enforcement Liaisons are required to host events, attend and conduct meetings, assist other BikeSafe agencies with organizing events, respond to public inquiries associated with their region, and report all efforts and activities back to the GHSP Statewide Coordinator. The requested monies for equipment will be used to purchase a larger BikeSafeNC tent. This will be used during special event to promote BikeSafe and motorcycle safety. The in-state F-9 Page 214
