CABARRUS COUNTY <br /> 1792 <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ir REGULAR MEETING <br /> NOVEMBER 20, 2017 <br /> 6:30 P.M. <br /> AGENDA CATEGORY: <br /> Consent Agenda <br /> SUBJECT: <br /> Sheriff's Office - North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program <br /> Local Governmental Resolution <br /> BRIEF SUMMARY: <br /> Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office is receiving a grant through the <br /> Governor's Highway Safety Program. Lieutenant Aaron Rankin serves as <br /> the coordinator and organizer for BikeSafeNC in our region of North <br /> Carolina. A grant in the amount of $10,000 will cover the cost of education <br /> event materials, equipment and travel. No local match is required. The <br /> Governor's Highway Safety Program (GHSP) supports and oversees the <br /> statewide BikeSafeNC. <br /> A BikeSafeNC Regional Law Enforcement Liaison serves as coordinator <br /> and organizer for BikeSafeNC activities in his/her respective region. The <br /> Governor's Highway Safety Program supports and oversees the statewide <br /> BikeSafeNC program. Coordination of this program is accomplished by <br /> utilizing six regional BikeSafeNC Regional Law Enforcement Liaison <br /> (RLEL) positions. Planning, preparation and reporting activities for <br /> BikeSafe training and events occurs through the guidance and <br /> coordination efforts of the liaisons. BikeSafeNC RLELs are responsible for <br /> continued efforts to promote and involve law enforcement agencies in <br /> these lifesaving endeavors. To this end, Law Enforcement Liaisons are <br /> required to host events, attend and conduct meetings, assist other <br /> BikeSafe agencies with organizing events, respond to public inquiries <br /> associated with their region, and report all efforts and activities back to the <br /> GHSP Statewide Coordinator. The requested monies for equipment will <br /> be used to purchase a larger BikeSafeNC tent. This will be used during <br /> special event to promote BikeSafe and motorcycle safety.
