CAR • 2016 <br />i �'y�J,rJJl� ll <br />1 <br />AGENDA CATEGORY: <br />Consent Agenda <br />SUBJECT: <br />ALP - Partnership with Partners for Parks <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />Partners for Parks is an independent non - profit 501 (c) 3 organization in <br />Mecklenburg County that will act as a host site for Cabarrus County Active <br />Living and Parks (ALP). An account can be established with our name <br />thus providing 501 (c) 3 status for the Department. <br />Partners for Parks was established to enhance the Mecklenburg County <br />Park System beginning in 1996. Since that beginning, it has expanded to <br />jurisdictions outside of Mecklenburg County. There are numerous park <br />and recreation agencies in the area that have established accounts with <br />Partners for Parks. <br />Partners for Parks acts as a holding agent only, they do not fundraise, and <br />they do not charge for this service. There are some grants that can only <br />be awarded to 501 (c) 3 organizations. Additionally, there is a group <br />interested in fund raising for a bike trail at Rob Wallace Park. Being a 501 <br />(c) 3 would enhance their chance of receiving funding. <br />REQUESTED ACTION: <br />Motion to approve the establishment of a partnership between the Active <br />Living and Parks Department and Partners for Parks and to authorize the <br />County Manager and County Attorney to complete all necessary <br />documents. <br />EXPECTED LENGTH OF PRESENTATION: <br />F -1 Page 17 <br />
