CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF • • <br />* <br />REGULAR <br />¢ TN eA BO <br />O 1 <br />� / <br />1 P .M. <br />AGENDA CATEGORY: <br />New Business <br />SUBJECT: <br />Planning and Development - Proposed Amendment to the Code of <br />Ordinances Regarding Electrical Testing Requirement for Unlicensed <br />Individuals - Public Hearing 6:30 P.M. <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />Construction Standards staff is proposing an amending to the Cabarrus <br />County Code of Ordinances, Article II - Permits and Inspections, <br />reinstating testing to obtain electrical permits for unlicensed individuals. <br />The NC Electrical Code permits testing of unlicensed individuals prior to <br />obtaining a permit for work to be performed on their own homes. Testing <br />was administered by Cabarrus County staff in the past, but was removed <br />from the Cabarrus County Code at some point. Electrical Code <br />Enforcement staff is requesting that the testing be reinstated locally to <br />ensure that individuals performing work on their own homes are qualified <br />to do so. Staff has experienced an increase in unqualified parties <br />performing complicated electrical work which has increased workload due <br />to multiple and time consuming visits. <br />REQUESTED ACTION: <br />Hold a public hearing. <br />Motion to approve the Ordinance Amending the Cabarrus County Code of <br />Ordinances, Article II, Permits and Inspections. <br />EXPECTED LENGTH OF PRESENTATION: <br />10 Minutes <br />G -2 Page 101 <br />
