CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARDS, COMMITTEES, COMMISSIONS AND AUTHORITIES <br />The Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners makes appointments to a number <br />of boards, committees, commissions and authorities. All citizens of Cabarrus <br />County are encouraged to volunteer to serve on these boards /committees. To <br />obtain an application for appointment or for more information, please contact <br />Megan Smit, Clerk to the Board, at the Governmental Center, 65 Church Street, <br />SE, Concord, or call (704) 920 -2109. The application may also be downloaded <br />from the County's website at www.cabarruscounty.us <br />A listing of the boards /committees is as follows: <br />ACTIVE LIVING AND PARKS COMMISSION <br />This commission advises on parks and recreation needs of County <br />residents and assists the Parks Department in planning facilities and <br />operational activities. The 11- member commission includes a <br />representative from each of the 7 planning areas (Concord, Eastern, <br />Kannapolis, Central, Midland, Northwest Cabarrus and Harrisburg), 2 at- <br />large representatives, 1 representative from the Cabarrus School Board <br />and 1 representative from the Kannapolis School Board. Appointments <br />are for terms of three years. <br />ADULT CARE HOME COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br />This committee seeks to maintain the intent of the Adult Care Home <br />Residents Bill of Rights and to promote community involvement with the <br />homes (homes for the aged, family care homes and homes for <br />developmentally disabled adults). Members cannot be employed by an <br />adult care home nor have any financial interest, directly or indirectly, in an <br />adult care home. Immediate family of an adult care home resident in <br />Cabarrus County cannot serve on the committee. Initial appointment is for <br />a term of one year with successive appointments of three -year terms. <br />BOARD OF EQUALIZATION AND REVIEW <br />This board: (1) reviews the tax lists of the county for the current year to <br />assure that all property is listed and appraised accurately; (2) hears any <br />property owner's appeal concerning the value assigned to his property (or <br />that of others); and (3) has the authority to make adjustments necessary <br />to bring the valuation into line with the standards established by law. <br />Members serve three -year terms. <br />CENTRALINA WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD <br />This group serves as the governing body for a variety of programs and <br />their plans, including the Job Training Partnership Act, Work First (JOBS) <br />welfare and placement programs, the Older Worker Americans Act Job <br />Training and Employment Program, etc. The County Commissioners <br />Attachment number 1 \n <br />1 -6 Page 144 <br />
