CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF • • <br />* <br />REGULAR <br />MAY 16 2016 <br />1 <br />AGENDA CATEGORY: <br />New Business <br />SUBJECT: <br />Active Living and Parks - Vietnam Veterans Coalition Monument Proposal <br />for Vietnam Veterans Park <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />The Cabarrus Veteran's Coalition (CVC) has offered to donate a <br />monument to recognize all Cabarrus County residents who gave their <br />lives during the Vietnam War. Active Living and Parks has worked with <br />Infrastructure and Asset Management (IAM) to provide site preparation, a <br />concrete pad and walkway for the monument. CVC will also provide 5 <br />park benches for the site representing each of the five branches of the <br />military. <br />The CVC is raising the funds to purchase the monument and benches for <br />the project and Cabarrus County will be responsible for the site <br />preparation, concrete pad and walkway. IAM has funds in the current <br />FY16 budget for the work. County expenditures are dependent on fund <br />raising progress by the CVC. The County funds may need to be re- <br />appropriated to next the budget year if this portion can not be completed <br />by June 30, 2016. <br />REQUESTED ACTION: <br />Motion to approve the proposed location and project as presented. <br />EXPECTED LENGTH OF PRESENTATION: <br />G -4 Page 198 <br />
