SAFETY PLAN PURPOSE <br />A System Safety Plan has many beneficial purposes for your employees and passengers. A plan <br />provides: <br />A documented approach to accomplishing a system safety program. <br />A means of providing safety policies and procedures to drivers, vehicle maintenance, <br />office and facility personnel. <br />A way to reduce accidents and injuries through preventative measures. <br />SAFETY OBJECTIVES <br />In the transit environment, when properly applied, system safety: <br />1. Ensures safety is addressed during system planning, design and construction <br />2. Provide analysis tools and methodologies to promote safe system operation through the <br />identification of safety hazards and the implementation of technology, procedures, training, <br />and safety devices to resolve these hazards <br />TRANSIT SYSTEM SAFETY PHILOSOPHY <br />NCDOT Safety Philosophy Statements <br />A Safety Philosophy is part of the North Carolina Department of Transportation ( NCDOT) <br />mission. North Carolina public transit systems can uphold this mission by acknowledging and <br />implementing the NCDOT safety philosophy statements shown below: <br />All accidents and injuries can be prevented. <br />Management/supervisors are responsible, and will be held accountable, for preventing <br />injuries and occupational illnesses. <br />Occupational safety and health is part of every employee's total job performance. <br />Working safely is a condition of employment. <br />All workplace hazards can be safeguarded. <br />Training employees to work safely is essential and is the responsibility of <br />management/supervision. <br />Preventing personal injuries and accidents is good business. <br />04/25/16 PDFConvert. 10736. 1.
