CABARRUS COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
REGULAR
JULY 18 2016
•
AGENDA CATEGORY:
Consent Agenda
SUBJECT:
Finance - Lottery Funding Request for Two School Roof Projects and
Additional Renovation Funding
BRIEF SUMMARY:
Staff shared a history of lottery revenues and expenditures at the April 4,
2016 Board of Commissioner's work session. Currently, $1,600,000 in
lottery funds are unallocated and available for one -time projects. As a
result of discussions with Cabarrus County Schools (CCS) and
Kannapolis City Schools (KCS), County Management and Finance
propose to use the lottery funds to assist with the construction of Mount
Pleasant Middle School and Kannapolis Middle School.
By using the lottery funding for the two schools, it releases Capital
Reserve Funding that was originally allocated for the construction of those
schools. The available Capital Reserve Funds could then be used for roof
projects at Concord Middle School roof and Harrisburg Elementary School
as well as renovations at Kannapolis Intermediate School (Carver
Elementary) for KCS.
REQUESTED ACTION:
Motion to approve Lottery Applications for Cabarrus County Schools
($1,500,000) and Kannapolis City Schools ($100,000) and authorize
the Chairman to execute the applications.
Motion to approve Project Ordinances and related budget amendments
for the Public School Building Capital Project Fund (Fd 320), the School
Construction Debt Capital Project Fund (Fd 368), the Capital Reserve
Fund (Fd 450), and the School Construction Capital Project Fund (Fd
F -5 Page 50
