CABARRUS COUNTY
w r;
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
REGULAR MEETING
OCTOBER 17, 2016
1
AGENDA CATEGORY:
Recognitions and Presentations
SUBJECT:
Planning and Development - Cabarrus Soil and Water Conservation
District - 2016 Governor's Conservation Achievement Award Recipient
BRIEF SUMMARY:
Cabarrus Soil and Water Conservation District has been honored with the
2016 Governor's Conservation Achievement Award as the North Carolina
Wildlife Federation Affiliate of the Year. As a leader in farmland
preservation and a model for natural resource conservation districts, the
Cabarrus Soil and Water Conservation District is working to permanently
protect a prairie to North Carolina's state nature preserve
system, has championed amphibian and reptile sustainability and has
served as a leader in youth conservation education.
The prestigious Governor's Conservation Achievement Awards are a long-
standing effort to honor individuals, governmental bodies, organizations
and others who have exhibited an unwavering commitment to
conservation in North Carolina. These are the highest natural resource
honors given in the state. By recognizing, publicizing and honoring these
conservation leaders —young and old, professional and volunteer —the
North Carolina Wildlife Federation hopes to inspire all North Carolinians to
take a more active role in protecting the natural resources of our state.
The awards were presented at the Annual Governor's Conservation
Achievement Awards banquet and celebration held September 10 at the
Embassy Suites RTP in Cary, NC.
REQUESTED ACTION:
Present award to conservation district board and staff.
C -2 Page 35
