CABARRUS COUNTY <br />w r; <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />NOVEMBER 21, 2016 <br />1 <br />AGENDA CATEGORY: <br />Recognitions and Presentations <br />SUBJECT: <br />EMS - First Place Carolina Competition <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />The Cabarrus County EMS team of Captains Will Cannon and Jonathan <br />Maulden took top honors at the Carolina Paramedic Competition in <br />Greenville, South Carolina, on October 15. The team won the two -day <br />event pitting the best teams from North and South Carolina in a <br />competition format of complex patient care scenarios. <br />The competition's scenarios required great attention to care, scene <br />management, professionalism and clinical decision - making skills. <br />Over the years, Cabarrus teams have earned three first -place and one <br />third -place finish in this event, along with other major competition wins. <br />The Cannon - Maulden team previously won the 2014 Carolina's <br />Paramedic Competition. <br />"This level of excellence is what the Cabarrus EMS paramedics strive to <br />bring to the citizens of the County each day," EMS Director Alan <br />Thompson said. <br />Captain Jonathan Maulden is a Nationally Registered Paramedic and <br />currently serves as an EMS supervisor, disaster medical specialist and <br />tactical medic. He holds a bachelor's degree from Eastern Carolina <br />University. <br />Captain Will Cannon is a Nationally Registered Paramedic and currently <br />serves as an EMS supervisor, disaster medical specialist and Tactical <br />Medic.
