CABARRUS COUNTY
w r;
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
REGULAR MEETING
NOVEMBER 21, 2016
1
AGENDA CATEGORY:
Recognitions and Presentations
SUBJECT:
EMS - First Place Carolina Competition
BRIEF SUMMARY:
The Cabarrus County EMS team of Captains Will Cannon and Jonathan
Maulden took top honors at the Carolina Paramedic Competition in
Greenville, South Carolina, on October 15. The team won the two -day
event pitting the best teams from North and South Carolina in a
competition format of complex patient care scenarios.
The competition's scenarios required great attention to care, scene
management, professionalism and clinical decision - making skills.
Over the years, Cabarrus teams have earned three first -place and one
third -place finish in this event, along with other major competition wins.
The Cannon - Maulden team previously won the 2014 Carolina's
Paramedic Competition.
"This level of excellence is what the Cabarrus EMS paramedics strive to
bring to the citizens of the County each day," EMS Director Alan
Thompson said.
Captain Jonathan Maulden is a Nationally Registered Paramedic and
currently serves as an EMS supervisor, disaster medical specialist and
tactical medic. He holds a bachelor's degree from Eastern Carolina
University.
Captain Will Cannon is a Nationally Registered Paramedic and currently
serves as an EMS supervisor, disaster medical specialist and Tactical
Medic.
