1 <br /> 1792 <br /> r' t <br /> 1 <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, <br /> Georgia, and devoted his life to fighting poverty, injustice and racism in America; and <br /> WHEREAS, Dr. King, through his practice of non-violent protest, promoted the <br /> importance of love, peace and freedom for humankind and challenged America to honor <br /> its promise of liberty and justice for all citizens; and <br /> WHEREAS, during his lifetime, Dr. King sought to forge the common ground on <br /> which individuals of all ages, races and backgrounds could join together to address <br /> important community issues and provide service to their community; and <br /> WHEREAS, the third Monday in January has been established as a national <br /> holiday to observe the anniversary of Dr. King's birth. <br /> NOW THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners hereby <br /> proclaims Monday, January 16, 2017 as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in Cabarrus <br /> County and encourages all citizens to join in the special programs and ceremonies to be <br /> held on January 14-16 honoring the life and work of Dr. King and his legacy of peace <br /> and equality for all citizens. <br /> Adopted this the 19th day of December, 2016. <br /> Stephen M.
