2017 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy <br /> Update Process <br /> Fact Sheet <br /> WHAT <br /> • The process to complete a five-year update of the region's Comprehensive <br /> Economic Development Strategy(CEDS). A regional economic development <br /> strategy helps our region compete for businesses and people, nationally and <br /> internationally. <br /> WHY <br /> • Research indicates that the majority of U.S. economic activity is occurring not <br /> just within major cities but rather within regions across the nation. <br /> • Our nine-county region's population is expected to increase by 50 percent within <br /> 20 years, and double within 40 years. Part of planning for that growth is planning <br /> for the economic and workforce development to ensure we have quality jobs for <br /> workers and skilled workers for jobs. <br /> WHO <br /> • The Centralina Economic Development Commission will administer the <br /> development of the CEDS. The Commission serves as the governing board for the <br /> nine-county Economic Development District. <br /> • This process will engage the public, but in particular people and organizations in <br /> the public and private sector who are involved in areas such economic <br /> development, business and industry, government, workforce development and <br /> workforce training. <br /> WHERE <br /> • The nine-county Centralina region and the Centralina Economic Development <br /> District includes Anson, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, <br /> Stanly and Union counties in North Carolina. <br /> WHEN <br /> • The CEDS update process will be completed September 30, 2017, and will <br /> involve public and stakeholder engagement events. <br /> Attachment number 4\n <br /> F-4 Page 48 <br />
